Do note that along with authorizing with NI comes NKS compatibility (well, that's a requirement during developing any NI Player product nowadays).

What would be great would be a polyphonic mode for blocks (esp now that they are abstracting patching) and better MPE support (Reaktor has a long history of leading w/r/t advanced controls w/ OSC and other things.)

I'm sure this codebase is a nightmare, I remember the long dark night of the soul that was v4 with years of them chasing hideous bugs. Lots of respect for NI for keeping it going... but, maybe it is time for something new? NI is a big, rich company that is falling behind the VCV project very quickly.

EvilDragon wrote: Fri Apr 12, 2019 3:50 pm Blocks need to be encoded and entered in NI's product database, so that it can be authorized and then referenced in Racks. Pretty much the same thing as with Kontakt.
Could you give an honoust answer why this is necessary , if it is for personal use only ?
Is it because of the .nksr preset system , shed some light please
BUmp
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

It's because once you have a product installed through NA, the path to it gets written to registry/plist, which makes relative path references possible for .nksr, it'd work even if you moved the Blocks elsewhere as long as you update the product's path within NA (but you shouldn't rename .isms, that should be a given). That plus marking the .ism as rackable (I assume this flag gets removed if you modify .ism then resave it, which is why it gets recognized as "user content" and as such cannot go into Racks).

it does. but its not expensive and the money goes to charity iirc.
not sure about the one in softtube?
No.. The Mutable stuff is free...
However there is a preview option, where one can get early release on some new units, with the money going to charity. After 6 months, I think, the preview modules are added to the free modules.

there is also solorack, less known, but it seems it is great modular.
There is also Alpha Forever...

That was my remembrance that the Mutable stuff was free...

That seems to me to be quite a big reason to choose a different platform for someone who wants to build stuff for themselves.

Plenty of other ways to build stuff for yourself in Reaktor, tho.

That sounds like a confirmation to all the criticism about reaktor 6.3 closed eco rack

(Talking about Blocks) Yeah, but the nice new method, which is an improvement, is unavailable... No question that is a downer for those users.

Obviously, as of now, NI created a walled off room... it may be their plan for that to be temporary, or they may change that due to user pressure etc.

Not really. herw did cables in regular ensembles ages ago...

There are also already user blocks with front facing wires in the user library. So users can already create front facing wire blocks and I'm sure more with happen now, just like the factory rack compatible blocks can be used in normal ensembles with the wires usable (without colors apparently). So I'm sure free blocks with wires will be created, we just have to use those with the old ensemble system.

JoeCat wrote: Fri Apr 12, 2019 7:07 pm I'm fine with Block / Rack ecosystem that includes both free and paid modules - I'd just like to be able to work within that system for my own use without approval from NI. I think with both VCV and Cherry you can create code your own modules and of course use them in racks without first authorizing them and making them public. That's the only aspect I find problematic.

I'd probably never finish exploring Eurorakt anyway, but it seems like a missed opportunity on NI's part.
I think you've summed up how I'm feeling. Would just be nice to use the new patch cables with my own hacked-together Blocks that I'd never dream of trying to sell or even share (really, I'm more circuit bender than developer :))
