Let's talk reaktor 6.4

It's not an exaggeration to say this is upsetting to a lot in the Reaktor community - it's playing out in the NI forums and NI reps are monitoring it. To paraphrase, they're taking the comments seriously.
Probably one of the biggest gripes is the inability to snapshot connections in ensemble mode. This kinda makes sense given the underlying structure of Reaktor, but it's disappointing.
A lot of the users on the forum are making note of the competition with Cherry, Softube, and VCV. It feels like a separate Reaktor branch created to compete with that model and monetize third-party modules.
I'm confused though - the Rack version of Eurorakt is sold directly on UnfilteredAudio's website, unlike (for example) Reason Rack extensions, so I assume NI only charges for a commercial registration (ID) in their centralized system? Else I'm back to wondering why they couldn't implement a universal ID so users don't need to register. It doesn't look like they are making a percentage per sale since you can sell blocks outside of any NI storefront.

If you want to make use of the new capability, then yes, something important has been lost. And since the new method addresses a couple of the major shortcomings of Blocks as it has been, that is a bummer.vurt wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 4:14 pmbut nothing has been lost? has it? if so, then of course its not a positive move.
but so far, its an additional feature, and everything else works as it did before no?

by lost though, i meant, is there anything that could be done lets say last sunday that cant be done today?pdxindy wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 4:33 pmIf you want to make use of the new capability, then yes, something important has been lost. or is it just the new features aren't backwards compatible?
im not suggesting the update is perfect, just some of the negativity is a bit over dramatic. when in essence we have been given something new, in addition to the old, not replacing or crippling the old in any way.
maybe being a bit less hyperbolic (not you) in the negativity over on the reaktor forum, might make the reps and ni more amenable to enhancements.
in the end, its early days, lets see where it goes rather than throwing the baby out with the bath water
(again, in general terms, not aimed at you)

And I just noticed you (and EvilDragon) have been active in NI forum thread also - funny cause I was just thinking about the point you made that major developers won't work in Reaktor Core - a lot of these guys have already coded their hardware emulations in C++ (and there are obviously already great tools and libraries for DSP / analog design in C++, etc. - you can translate but it's an additional step of course.) So I agree - don't necessarily see a commercial Reaktor environment.gentleclockdivider wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 3:49 pm Go troll elsewhere or join the reaktor forum and see for yourself
Do you actually build stuff in reaktor ?
If so , you would understand why the majority is upset .
If you don't then I guess we'don't have anything to say to each other , and surely not the sound of VURT coming to my ears![]()
Thank god there's the ignore list![]()

The tendency to be dramatic is rather common... that aside, there is something to be bothered by.vurt wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 4:39 pmim not suggesting the update is perfect, just some of the negativity is a bit over dramatic. when in essence we have been given something new, in addition to the old, not replacing or crippling the old in any way.

The new functionality is desirable. Yes, you can use the old Blocks today just the same as it has always been. But working with and saving presets pretty much sucks. Instead of the old Blocks being improved in that area, there is a new but walled off option called Racks. If you want to use it, you lose the whole library of user created blocks. And since this is the solution, it now seems less likely that the old Blocks will be improved.

Also, reading about the cabling color restrictions in the new Racks (based on NKS compatibility), I'm concerned NI is driving a bit hard into that. I get the business model, but there's a tipping point where one has to buy into an entire system for it to be useful.pdxindy wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 5:48 pmThe tendency to be dramatic is rather common... that aside, there is something to be bothered by.vurt wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 4:39 pmim not suggesting the update is perfect, just some of the negativity is a bit over dramatic. when in essence we have been given something new, in addition to the old, not replacing or crippling the old in any way.

Suddenly in the software modular arena, you already need to pick a winner between potentially 4 competing systems.

Is it a Native Instruments sponsored site? I don't see any information about the site, but it seems to imply that these are community created blocks.bob swans wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 7:03 pm Looks like we have another Blocks/Rack library available (this site was available to testers but was not live)

I can't remember, I probably shouldn't have posted it. It's probably supposed to be live tomorrow when the official announcement drops. I was able to purchase the "free" pack so I assumed the website was "Live"Deep Purple wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 7:11 pmIs it a Native Instruments sponsored site? its looks very "ni design" wise, down to fonts used and such. so im not sure

That was the first thing that I noticed - it's got a lot of NI type design elements, but it's weird that it lacks any information on the company behind it.vurt wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 7:20 pm its looks very "ni design" wise, down to fonts used and such. so im not sure![]()

but you can see where it is going to: 80+80=160, if you want euro reakt & toybox... but for the number of modules you get, it is cheaper than softube modular... both look great, are great. and i follow the discussion, there are strange things with this update. but you can still use reaktor as reaktor...
this is for people that want a soft modular, it already competes with these two bundles witch VM.
(and VM i own, but i use it more for the plugin host, and of course modulation possibilities. 3 effects on 3 "bands" of one sound, possible with the plugin host, and a third party plugin...)
EDIT: the free pack has already 44 modules. and with the free modules of unfiltered audio...
