FR - sequencer - cropping audio parts

This is a big issue for me - Jørgen - please, please read - mange tak [danish - for thanks a lot].
I need to be able to crop an audio part both in the beginning and the end of the part.
Right now I am only able to crop the end, by dragging the right border of the box representing the part, what I need is to be able to crop the beginning by dragging the left side of that box. Small GUI bug btw: the cursor does not change to indicate that dragging is possible, so the feature is hard to find.
Here's why I have the pressing need for this:
I often record a lot more than I need - pressing record during the intro to record percussion for the chorus - to get ready in time. After that I need to get rid of that silence, coughing, and noise in the beginning of the new audio part.
Actually - in the longer term I'd love to see more editing facilities for audio parts, directly in the arranger - like samplitude that offers a volume envelope pr. part directly in the arranger, as well as that cropping functionality I need. Check out the demo of samplitude if you haven't - that audio arranger rocks [but it's not modular so it's still pretty much a pain way for experimenting and composing imo].

you can do it by opening the audio part editor (dbl clic on the audio, then on the waveform at the bottom of this window, left clicking where you want the part to begin. same with right clic for the end.
But I admit the lack of possibilities in audio handling in the arrangement view of the sequenceur is really a big issue. no way to cut the part, and real pain when you have to select hidden audio parts (even with keyboards arrows it's sometimes hard: selected audio should go and stay at the top level)...

yep, it is possible, but you always end up messing up the timing without a proper crop tool. And again - you should not need to go into the part editor to crop it. It should be relatively simple to implement too. And yes - the audio arranger lacks a ton of features. Perhaps Jorgen is not using the audio sequencer very much himself - fair enough but remember: the customer is always right

I must be losing my mind, I was dead sure that this FR was in the list. But apparently not (then again, I'm almost getting famous for being able to miss FR:s already in the list so...
).
Anyway... I totally agree! Changing the length of all kinds of parts, notes and envelopes from both the right and left hand side is essential!
When it comes to the cursor not changing shape when changing the length of a part, I don't think that can be considered a bug. Just the lack of a feature
. But it would be helpful, though. Just another part in the big puzzle of creating an intuitive GUI

Tomas,
I think this was the one:
ability to resize/trim the start of a part (Posting)
I keep struggling with keeping people's original words in the Requests or changing them. ATM, I tend to keep the original words, so that theposters have half a chance of finding them.

That was actually a pretty descriptive text
. I was looking for "length" and "left". Never occured to me that "start" and "resize" might be good words to look for
.

what about holding ALT and clicking on the sample?
That seems to work for me, and it adheres to the snapping amount if timing is your problem.
Pete.

Yes, that's it.

As much as I love working in XT, manipulating audio in the sequencer after recording is probably it's weakest area.
I'd be up for any enhancements to audio editing.

I agree and I agree and I agree - it's only a few minor enhancements and then eXT will suddenly be the most powerful sequencer regarding audio -editing/recording - with the 'multiple channels per track' in combination with the new sampler it has the potential for it
Come on, Jorgen - show us what you can come up with.

oh yeah, sometimes I become very crazy when trying to edit recorded vocals, trying to use different takes and combine them... it's the hell, the real "blackpoint" of energyxt. it's fiunny to see that we have a lot of innovatives features but lack some major functionnalities. so was the pitchbend pane in midi track (now almost fixed, thx Jorgen a lot!!!) so is a lot of little things that sometimes make Ext unusable in some basic tasks, while we realize some extraordinary things on the other hand....manipulating audio in the sequencer after recording

I have lots of plans for audio features and workflow in sequecner and overall. I'll get into more detail later.

I don't think so - but I think I recall that as a feature request.Exit Zero wrote:Is there a way to launch the clip in a perferred two track editor?
Hiya Exit - how are you?
