Turn down age knob

Not everybody wants a noise free plugin .
I love a bit of noise
As has been mentioned, even with Age set to zero, the noise is still quite prevalent - and again, it's not even the noise per se, but how it sounds... for starters, it seems to have a strange envelope... in a way it seems to be added on top of the actual signal in a way it would not be with a real BBD - but that's just my impression.
This type of env-followed asperity noise can also be found in other BBD emulations, for example Fuse Audio Labs Bucket-500 delay (the noise is optional but if you turn it on it's WAY louder than the noise on the Valhalla) or Sknote's DDD chorus. I mean, I agree that it should be optional but the noise itself is nothing unusual for BBD circuits with their expander / compander structure.

Stepping through some of the presets from the “Rhythmical“-folder which I made for the factory library of ValhallaDelay, using a industrial drum sequence (Groove Agent) as the audio input, tweaking a few delay parameters here and there.

Since reverbs are basically delays anyway I couldn't wait to hear a Vahalla take on delays and I gotta say this just continues the line of classic plugins.
The noise doesn't bother and I feel like it adds character to the plugin. Same way outboard gear has its quirks but amazing sound despite the quirks that make them vintage units.

I think it's nearly a flawless design in the balance of depth and simplicity, how the one feature I do think is missing is a ducking control, while I could use a send, I often put delays as inserts because I don't like 2 things having the same delay time.

Absolutely love it on the Bucket 500 - that one is spot on!
"Preamps have literally one job: when you turn up the gain, it gets louder." Jamcat, talking about presmp-emulation plugins.

<rant>This whole idea of adding noise to a plugin is fine as long as you give the user the control to turn it off. Any dev that argues with that has no regard for published usability best practise and is trying to pull wool over your eyes. noise. think about it... ya sure the rest of Delay is nice but it adds freaking noise to your audio! if you dont care then good luck to you in making quality sounding music. i like noise. i use it a lot. but I want control of it. to not provide a way to turn it off is verging on irresponsible.<\rant>

That Black and White Film preset is just flat out pure ear porn.

Ah yes, as some already mentioned, ducking is one feature I forgot which would be nice to have in VD. I got used to built-in ducking in Replika XT, and it's really useful in many situations. I think there haven't been any major feature additions to any Valhalla plugins after their releases (besides new modes etc), but if there's any way to add ducking to VD without breaking anything, I (and probably many others) would be haaapppyyy!

So everyone using analog gear should get rid of it now according to your theory?

Just use something else...

$50 only? It must be a pretty bad sounding plugin. Elton John won't approve.

Honest question: How would you use a send to achieve delay ducking?

I normally think of sends as a way to add wet FX to a dry signal, and off course, apply the same FX to multiple source signals.
