Hello everybody,

I wanted to use my VST plugins in Mainstage 3... but I couldn't because Mainstage does not load VST plugins.

So I made an Audio Unit plugin which is able to load VST plugins. You add the plugin in MainStage, then you choose the VST plugin you want to use and... start using it.

It is called AuVstBridge and it's on GitHub (https://github.com/tibsys/AuVstBridge).

There are some limitations now, for example some VST plugin editor page does not appear in the AuVstBridge editor window but in the top-left corner of the screen, but it works.

Please let me know if you have problems so we can improve it, and if you can contribute in its development.

Best
Tristan

I should have said that the plugin I wanted to use in Mainstage is PG-8X! How can one make music without this plugin ;)

Cool project, especially if you keep it simple.

I couldn't find an AU plugin component download in the github link though, so couldn't try it...

I'm interested to see how this progresses as well.

But yes, please compile the AU plugin :)

Tried to run the AuVstBridge.jucer and XCode threw a ton of error meassages. I must admit I never compiled a plug-in from source, but I am willing to learn. I would need instructions where all the libraries and sources have to be to run it without error messages and get a working plug-in... (Step by step)
I have Projucer, XCode, the VST libraries and everything downloaded and installed...

It would be interesting to see something that does the opposite - Reason allows VST plugins to be loaded on a Mac, but not AU plugins - I don't install VST plugins, but I would install one if it allowed me to load AU plugins in Reason.

Not to mention, they also do this:

I would also be interested to try this, if somebody does compile it.

There's always this one for free too :

There's 2 separate plugin versions IIRC, AU to VST and VST to AU.

It's a little clunky, but it did seem to work when I tried it a while back.
I didn't test it too thoroughly though, just tried a couple of plugins and don't remember any problems.

Hi thank you for your feedback. I'll compile it and upload it on GitHub.

I suppose it could be done, I can unlock this feature quite easily but I won't be able to test it in Reason. I'll post here when it's done.

Hi here is the link to the release 1.0.4 : https://github.com/tibsys/AuVstBridge/r ... /tag/1.0.4

When I have a little time I'll release in different formats:
- Windows VST3 (for WindowsVST2)
- Mac Audio Unit (for Mac VST2 and VST3)
- Mac VST3 (for Mac VST2)

Wow, thanks Tristan !

I tested 1.0.4 and it seems to work well with everything I've tried so far. :D

I didn't know if it might be possible though to somehow cache the scanned VST's once, so that the plugin doesn't do a full scan each time it's loaded.

I have a lot of plugins, and it takes a pretty long time to scan them all, every time I load the adapter plugin.
Also I didn't know if it would be possible to filter the VST list to show only instruments, as opposed to showing everything ?

Thanks again, this is a pretty cool plugin !

Hi,

thank you for your feedback. These are very good suggestions, I'll put them in the tasklist.
