So it's taken me a few weeks to get used to using SX2.2. A bit of head-scratching and cursing at the screen. Much help from some of you boys here (thanks) and I can finally wizz my way around a project, bounce to my heart's desire, edit without deleting everything, and even sussed out how to modify my preferences etc. And it's taken me this long to even get around to trying out some of the new synths that come with SX (don't know what took me so long - usually new toys like synths are the first port of call)

Nice! I was very pleasantly surprised. Monologue has some good grungy textures - I could even get it to sound almost Oberheim-ish and warm. Some hints of MS filters (almost) and vague hints of Jupiters in sync.

And that surround-sound pad synth thingy - Are they sampled oscillators? A bit limited on the features, but the basic waves are incredibly well recorded if they're samples. Some of those choirs and bell-like waves screamed Wavestation to me. Would be nice with Stepfilter or Tonic as an insert.

The Waldorf a1 - Yep...typically Waldorf. Nice distinctive filters - not what I'd call extremely analogue, but who cares...they have character, with a bit of dirt and noise thrown in.

So these synths are the icing on the cake I suppose. SX has pleasantly surprised me with how it wasn't too difficult to get into, they updated some of the plugins that I thought used to be the most useable within VST5 anyway - i.e the filters. A very nice multiband comp, and then I find 3 very characterful and eminently useable synths.

And Bojo gave away Impulse for free, JX gave his synth away for free. I got 87MB of Eventide IRs in 24bit.

What a bleedin' great fortnight I've had. I've enjoyed playing around for the sake of it alot more than not so long ago.

More thumbs up for Steinberg.

So..........next question - has anyone had a good play with SX3's warp thingummybob? How does it work, does it sound good, is it worth me getting SX3 for while the cheap deals are on?
