It would be great! :hihi:

Although I think I don't have *enough* Moogs to qualify, yet... :hihi: :clown:

Moogs are expensive, but also really nice products (if you like that sound, of course)... I'd like to get a Moog Matriarch, but it won't be anytime soon, I'll wait at last after the summer to just start thinking about it... and then I need to find room for it (that's the biggest issue, I have too much gear!)
free multisamples (last upd: 22th May 2021).

I can see why you would say that. The MB has that amazing Matrix, saves presets and is so hands on. After spending some hours with it, I found the sound not so much to my liking. Too easy to be hard and harsh. I so wanted to love that one.

The stereo capability of the Matriarch is appealing and I think the sound will be more to my liking. I also appreciate all the patch points.

I haven't demoed a MB myself, but I found the same thing in listening to many demos - there were sounds that appealed to me here and there but most of them not so much. Sweet spots seemed to be kind of narrow and fiddly. Which is really too bad, because I love the concept of it and it's such a strikingly attractive design. I think at one point I almost wanted to get one just because it would look so freaking cool in the setup (especially at night).

I probably sounded too dismissive in my earlier post. I suppose a lot of it is "Behringer Syndrome" at work, and the way they have influenced perception of value for dollar over the last couple of years. The Matriarch demos do sound very nice. And to be fair, it's probably about as powerful for sound design as a Voyager on the whole and costs less.

I have the money for a couple of these in my handy desk drawer. Maybe one day,
currently I only have eyes for fully modular... Looks like fun though. :tu:

I think they should have got this out for like $1200 and it woudl have also been decent value for a premium product, but they just always seem to push their costs based on the brand
The Matriarch is like 2 Grandmothers, plus a bigger keyboard with AT (+CV), paraphony, loopable envelopes and twice as many patch points (for example the 3 attenuators have CV in so can act as Ring Mods) and the Sequencer can be decoupled and has 4 notes per step. The Mixer can be used for mixing CV signals. If the Grandmother is a pretty good value, seems to me the Matriarch is too.

Well, regardless of others opinions, it seems well worth the price for me... so I pre-ordered one :tu:

Can mix CV on the Grandmother mixer too.

Sadly, this years busy season is coming to an end and the rate at which my drawer fills
will be drastically reduced for about 5 months. So, buying one of these, even for myself
would not be particularly responsible of me. :(

Anyway, I think it's expensive for what it offers. I am not a fan of Moog's pricing for
a lot of the stuff they sell. Have you ever looked at their shop for 3rd party stuff?
They mark stuff up crazily. When I was looking at the Erica Synths fusion drone,
moog was listed as a dealer, it cost $1000 more to buy it from them than anyone else.

Not to say they don't have reasonable pricing on some things, but imho, you have to
pay a premium for the name in a lot of cases.

I inquired about that while having an informal talk with a Moog employee. Standalone devices aren’t something that’s on their roadmap, as the level of support required for such devices that need proper connections to other devices is high. A keyboard synth or a “synth module” like a Mother-32 or DFAM can be fully functional on its own.

FWIW, I was specifically asking if Moog would ever develop a dedicated sequencer again, either like the 960 modular module, or a multitrack device in the Mom-32/DFAM format. The answer was a definite NO, but they wouldn’t rule out doing a multitrack sequencer with at least one synth voice on board. The odds of that seem awfully slim of happening though.

You’re paying for products made by a company that pays a living wage and treats people right. It’s a company that people WANT to work for, and STAY once they get a job there. Also, Asheville is not a cheap place to love, so that drives up what it costs for employees to live there.
