Been playing with this some more today.
I'd love some sort of freeze button. There are a couple of "Looper" presets in the Echo folder, but the delay as it stands doesn't lend itself to that sort of use as it's confounded by dry signal and ongoing input signal etc etc.
BUT, the textures in the Tape and BBD and Digital modes would be so lovely and lush for grabbing little "O Superman" snippets and just letting them roll along as a bed for further experimentation.
So, a Freeze Style, applicable in any Mode, would be grand.

(The trick would be working out how to let the loop degrade if the user wishes, and then stop at a stable level once a satisfactory level of degredation has been reached. Maybe some sort of two-stage Freeze system where the Stage 1 mutes the dry signal and puts the last 1/4 bar etc. into the buffer and starts playing it back through that mode's feedback system. Stage 2 moves the buffer to a completely static, non-degrading playback loop. Or something. Perhaps have it so that as long as you hold the Freeze button down, it's feedback degrading, and then when you let go of the button it goes static.)

Thinking about the freeze idea: I've never seen a delay that has a parameter for the delay fade time, like you see with reverbs. So, a Fade Time (0-n sec), Fade Freeze Level (Off/dB) in order to get full control of the fade and freeze ("off" fades normally, or when faded to dB will engage freeze at that level). Now wouldn't that be amazing!

this wouldn't make sense with the sync function on, me thinks, …or with a sophisticated algorithm that calculates the RT60 ratio whatever is the tempo of the song if really needed, but well designed it might be perhaps useful as a clearing function of the mix by controlling and canceling automatically the excessive and insignificant signal in it ?

i'm surprised Sean didn't include anything like the "Groove" and "Feel" parameters of Echoboy.
If this type of control was added to Valhalla Delay i'd consider buying it for sure.

Hi plugin junkies.

In the current FabFilter sale I can get Timeless 2 to add to my existing FF collection for 63% off total, making it $48, so just slightly cheaper than Valhalla Delay.

While both look amazing, I am looking for advice on which those of you with experience using both would say is better / more versatile?

I really like the look of Valhalla Delay's built in Reverb. And looking at it, it seems you can automate the mode parameter? Switching algorithms with automation? If so that is another interesting feature.

But Timeless 2 has much better modulation FX & filters.

Really torn between these 2 great delays I can currently get for $50. Part of me thinks grabbing Timeless 2 while I can for this price would be the move, but my love for Valhalla Room & Vintage Verb are making me want this delay pretty badly too.

My current fav delays would be SoundToys Echoboy & Waves H Delay. If I already own these would that make either one of the 2 I'm looking at a better choice?

Any advice that will aid me in this dilemma very much appreciated.

I'm a bit disappointed because some functions are missing (not just a "Groove" function). Echoboy or ReplikaXT still playing in a different league. Maybe I test it again because of the changed Ping Pong mode but the Valhalla Delay doesn't bring much new if you already have one of the other delays.

I love this Delay, it's so peculiar, and stands on its own. It's a perfect sound design tool.

(Get ready for a pun) I can echo these sentiments. For me Timeless 2 is based on a clean delay with lots of bells and whistles to modify and modulate the underlying clean sound. Valhalla Delay, for me, is a dirty sounding delay (call it "character") with lots of opportunity for musical swells and diffused echo clouds. They actually compliment each other very well.
