Well, recent updates to the SDK have enabled some new graphics designs, like more modern equalizers. As I said, compare Europa, Parsec, the new Drum Sequencer, or many new RE's to the devices that have been around since the early days.

Jace-BeOS wrote: Wed May 01, 2019 6:04 am I suppose some of the existing design elements could be tidied up or enhanced, but making things “clean” and “modern” by flattening the hell out of them is not an improvement. The flat fad is like bell bottoms and other tasteless 70s things. Dated as soon as the fad is over.
Not a fad, but rather another type of artistic /functional GUI expression in my view. But hey man, I always liked Reason's virtual rack type style.

And lava lamps.

The reality of private business is: You - can - run a private company for decades and have it - the company itself - not make much of a profit at all, while everyone involved is personally getting paid very well, has good benefits, and living well.
Avid has been on the decline for many years now, this is undeniable. They are not the once monstrous empire they once were, dominating the audio industry. The "industry standard" has slowly morphed into a lot of quality competitors. The big studios have slowly dwindled into professional home studios. There are a lot of changes that have happened in the past decade and Avid's financial situation reflects all of this.

The only things currently holding up their position are the teaching institutes pushing their products and the tv & movie industry's post processing facilities stuck with legacy procedures.

D'oh!!!   I wonder if it was something he said somewhere else? I mean, their behavior in this thread wasn't a bannable offense, was it? :hihi:

Though... their account was only started 2 months ago, and judging from their posts - I'm thinking this person has been banned before under a different name and started a new KVR account in an attempt to avoid the ban hammer...

24" monitor (1920 x 1080) and my issues are basically with small knobs & text. Even if they didn't make changes to the GUI and just made everything bigger, then it would at least be usable.
This is all I want. Thing is, they must have made the original assets at low resolution, otherwise why have they STILL not enlarged the rack UI? It’s likely not the re-coding of the GUI (which isn’t simple, I know), but the bitmaps needing recreation from scratch.

Thing is, they have had the skills to do this, evidenced by the iOS version of Thor (unless that was done by an outside contractor, or unless Thor was the first of the original Reason devices that had its assets created at a large size for future use in larger scale display scenarios).

PS: For anyone who thinks Reason looks “stale”... I suspect part of that is the size of the bitmaps. Small bitmaps, the pixelation or blur of the lines/curves/text from antialiasing, etc., tends to make illustrations have an “old timey computer” look. Replacing the bitmap text with actual live text labels might help a little in the interim, if the text labels themselves aren’t part of the device UI design (which, sadly, is probably the case).

That has nothing at all to do with my comment about people predicting their bankruptcy since ... forever... and being perpetually dead wrong about that. They still exist and people still buy and use their products. Unless I owned a lot of AVID stock I personally wouldn't care either way.

After the way Avid abandoned the driver development for the expensive ProjectMix I/O, I would experience a bit of schadenfreude if they went belly-up (same for all of InMusic)...

Better yet, drop the bitmaps and vectorize them as they are right now. Then they can be blown up to support any size and resolution. But that's tens of thousands of bitmaps and also fiddling with the core of the codebase as well.
