regarding Timeless 2 vs ValhallaDelay:
To me, they are the complete opposite to each other.
Timeless 2 is my main delay for the fact, that you can integrate it unobtrusively in your sound. I like that it's pretty transparent, has good ducking and other modulating options.
Of course you can make it sound very apparent and upfront, but i may be in the minority here when saying that it's filters sound like utter garbage to me when driven beyond the „barely there“ subtlety level.
ValhallaDelay on the other hand is stealing the show with it's sound. Of course you have to like it, but you might either have to back off with it, or use other tools to tame it into a full mix, because you can easily overdo with it without sounding bad. For solos, or other „big stuff“ though it's my new favorite.
Bear in mind though that i never tried any Soundtoys stuff, so maybe i would like those even more, but i can at least say that i don't really get the hype for Replika.
Of course fine, but in my oppinion, it does nothing exceptionally well/better than other delays i have in my collection.

Timeless 2 is also a lot more flexible in what kind of crazyness you can make it do. It's my main "make simple stuff weird" plugin and something I like tinkering with quite a lot.

Yes, it can of course do very weird aswell because of it's deep modulation options. It's just that the results don't gel with my ears that much most of the time in these regards.
Might of course be just a case of user error. I remember really liking some of your presets in particular nevertheless when i was skimming through them.
Not sure if those were of the weirder kind though as it has been ages.

"Delay" is an understatement for Timeless, it's a beast
There's also Ohmboyz, which is also cool but pretty old (I bought mine in 2007) and the GUI is a bit small and fiddly for today's monitor resolutions.
Anyway... you can't really compare the other delays with "Timeless". Replica, Echoboy, Valhalla, H-Delay etc. are rather musical delays. Sometimes you can do very crazy things with them, but they don't come close to "Timeless" (IMO)

Timeless's modulation is excellent for sure, but for some reason i almost never thought it yielded truly excellent sonical results when pushing these, but as stated before this might be purely because of lack in skills or imagination on my side.
Theres also Bloom or Sandman Pro, which - while they are also very well specced in their modulation capabilities - i never thought to sound poor when going nuts.
But yes, i'm looking for what i think musical results first and foremost and for me Timeless lives up to it's name in it's flexibility to fit into music unobtrusively.
For „character“ or other special needs i'm simply reaching elsewere.

Timeless is more of an "effect" because of the many modulation possibilities than a simple delay. If I need a typical delay on a track, it's usually a ping pong sometimes with a slight phaser effect... or just a tape with some "wow&flutter"... but I don't necessarily need "Timeless". That's more for the somewhat "wacky" delay effects. But if you already have all the "musical" delays, "Timeless" might be the best option.

The main problem with Timeless is that because it has a very flexible generic architecture, you have to build your own stuff with it and this can be a bit of a task and the included presets are of no help at all as they are outright terrible and extremely unmusical (it's like they had zero quality control in regards to this - anything goes obviously).
If you however carefully set up the filters (including driving them into saturation appropriately), the modulation and also the feedback, you can get really nice stuff out of it. But it's work - then again you have to do the bulk of it just once (which is what the included presets should have been doing for you)

Seriously though, you’re right. If you don’t get what Valhalla Delay is, then just go away and move on. It’s not for you. If you like the dreamy, smeary magic of a tape delay, sans all the issues of a tape delay, then step right up. It’s exactly what I thought was missing from Satin. Don’t get me wrong, Satin is nice, but it’s an emulation of a very well maintained studio reel to reel, not a Roland RE-201. And, I may be wrong, but I heard from someone that it was mentioned that a Echoplex model was also in the works for Delay? Smashing. All that’s missing (not really missing) is an actual Binson Echorec emulation, but I’m going to buy Pulsar Echorec anyway, because I really like the way the drum saturation sound is on that one. It’s a bit harsher and more saturated sounding than any other magnetic tape emulator I’ve found, and I dig that. Not all the time, but sometimes it’s great for f’d up sounds.

Demoed for 5 minutes and bought it. I have a million delays already but this one is too good to pass up.

The ultimate plugin that does every possible function to perfection does not exists (and will never) that's why we buy and use many different: it's to make different things, isn't it?

I already have FF Timeless and it's a beat with all its modulation stuff. But I'm still going to get Valhalla Delay for the more easy tasks. Was just fun to demo it.

I still haven't demoed Valhalla Delay but was wondering how it compares to Replika XT which is my go to delay right now. Are they different enough?

Timeless 2 definitely is feeling the age when it comes to pure sonics. What most people don't seem to realize is that the filters in Timeless are the main "character" part and all yield extremely different sonic fingerprint to the delay lines. Kind of like the different 'age' and algorithm settings in VDelay.
Gain staging within Timeless 2 also plays a huge role, just like in Twin and Volcano 2. If you want a suqeaky clean thin resonant filter (or just "clean" in general) you need to be driving the input of Timeless really low and compensate with the main output knob. This makes the whole plugin very program dependent which makes it a bit difficult to manage.
It CAN do a lot of basic things quite well but it could definitely be a lot better. I hope FabFilter will update it at some point in the future with all their current knowledge (like imagine a few dynamic Pro-Q3 nodes in there within the feedback path!!).
