zerocrossing wrote: Thu May 02, 2019 3:18 am If you like the dreamy, smeary magic of a tape delay, sans all the issues of a tape delay, then step right up.
Oh but I don't think that "dreamy smeary" is really very tape-ish...
Most common tape delay units I've heard could very well be described exactly like zerocrossing described it.

What do you think tape-ish delay sound is?

"Wavy" - like when a ship has just been passing by and each new wave is a little smaller and flatter than the previous one, but it's still a wave... a discrete shape in the water. That's the best analogy I can come up with spontaneously.

can i assume you are quite fastidious about keeping yours cleaned and maintained with new tape/heads when needed?
they can get a bit more smeary with age.

also, might help if both of you presented a short clip, you could just be using different adjectives to describe the same thing
sounds can be like that :)

Yes, it is quite possible indeed that we talk about the same thing...

I am not sure though I am brave enough to show something, because I find it quite difficult to get different delays to do the same thing - there's too many differences in the filters etc. and someone better than me at tweaking might find out it's just me being to dumb to use the stuff properly... it's much easier to just make dismissive comments on a forum instead... :hihi:

Very different. And that's a plus, indeed.

Been using Valhalla Delay on a lot of tracks and it really has been sounding good.

Yes, own both now and love both. Valhalla is the more dirty (if that makes sense and you can get a different character). Replika-XT might be still my choice 1 for everything really BIG, wide and clear at the same time.
Combining both is indeed very nice.

Valhalla Delay is an instant classic.

Isn't that an oxymoron?

^ :hihi: I was thinking exactly the same thing...

I'd call it future classic :D

But the future begins now, so it is instant :)
