I think my point is, from what I can see at least, people don't blink an eye when spending $10 at Starbucks, or $1000 on an iPhone and the teenagers seem to have no issues with $3000 gaming laptops, which I think all are insanely high priced products -- but none of them think about buying music..
That’s only because music is so easy to get without paying.
If Starbucks coffee and expensive laptops were just as easy to get without paying for then people wouldn't be paying for them either.
yes. technological advances and the ability to perfectly replicate and share high quality music media files killed the old music industry. But I also think with the newer generntion that have never know record stores -- the very concept of going to a store that has 1000s of titles and buying something that you can easily stream off the internet seems strange and absured.

He's Mr. Always Right. That's the base, house and rooftop of it. Sometimes it helps to know who you're entering into long-winded arguments with. Saves time and effort.

So in a nutshell, he's right and you are wrong, full stop, move on.

Once upon a time we had this thing called 'radio'. People could listen to music all day, and not pay anything to do so. A lot of people who listened to radio had no issue spending lots of money on all sorts of other things, but didnt think about buying music.
That must mean no-one ever bought music back then, right? One really wonders how the 'old' music industry survived back when all that music was available for free.
What has radio to do with any of this? Radio is and always was a separate and distinct entity from the practice of purchasing and collecting music by your favorite artists in the format of CD, LPs, tapes.

Anyways, I think we are going in circles. But as I posted, please share your sources as to where you are seeing a thriving music content creation industry? I would be interested in seeing it.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

According to some philosophers I'm an account. :clown:

Seriously. I would laugh much more when people who can't play an instrument. Who don't make any music. Who talk about music theory but clearly don't have a clue on what it means in practice. People who hang around in the forum all day round but are to "busy" to show us their "music". People like that claiming they're "musicians".

There are plenty of people who knows (or pretend to kno) the registration number of every screw under the hood of a car. But they don't know a thing about driving. Yet, some of them just have to call them self "drivers".

I've lost track, are we laughing at producers or not? My boss will be calling me later and I need to know if I should laugh at him because he isn't Brian Eno or Hugh Padgham.

Indeed, a meme or even one of those venn diagrams would have made things clearer. Without it, one can only assume the op is suffering from acute butthurt. And that others believe you can only call yourself a producer if you're freakin' Daniel Lanois or Quincy Jones. :nutter: Ah well, typical... whatever, back to work...
