I wish someone would make a movie out of the Foundation Trilogy

Anyone read the new addition to 2001? Was told it spoils the whole story somehow.

You can't watch a film on TV and decide whether its any good or not. That is not what they are made for. I have seen 2001: A Space Odyssey on the big screen four times and never on a TV set. I saw a brand new print about 5 years ago, on a double-bill with Forbidden Planet [also a new print]. 2001 is hands-down the all-time greatest science fiction film. It is simply magnificent in its scope and execution. Similarly, I've seen A Clockwork Orange at the cinema on about 6 or 8 occassions and it is equally brilliant.

Classic Favourites: Forbidden Planet, Planet of the Apes, Silent Running.

Modern Favourites: Bladerunner, A Boy and His Dog, Robocop, Alien/Aliens, Starship Troopers, Alien Resurrection.

The others are very average. Nothing like the original trilogy.

Never liked the Startship troopers movie. I also think more Arthur C. Clarke stuff needs to be made into movies

Forbidden Planet and The Day the Earth Stood Still are both amazing films, even by todays standards. Klattu the robot even spawned a prog rock group of the same name that made one of my all time favorite albums, HOPE.

On the topic of wish they would make a movie.....The Foundation series would be seriously good if they did it in pieces like Lord of the Rings. Anyone else see Lord of the Rings and see Ricky Schroeder and think he was born to be Elric? I'd love to see those stories made into movies.

SJ_Digriz, I didn't think anybody else had ever heard of Klattu! My favourite album by them is '3:47 - E.S.T.' That's got some classic tracks on it...

They are just a bit on the obscure side. The first 3 albums were all good stuff. Then we got hit with Endangered Species and its all been downhill since. They started out doing really kewl pop rock songs that all had technology galore with tight riffs and interesting hooks. They ended up doing simple disposable pop glop. Oh well.

i have some books but read most of his stuf in our local library
one of my favourites is the naked sun !
