I see this as a huge missed opportunity. They are trying to be cute making the plugins look like a tiny knob on a circuit board, but ultimately these plugins are laid out roughly the same way they would appear without a GUI in S1. Ultimately they seem of lower usability than just having no GUI at all, since in S1 the knob is bigger and it shows the setting number at all times.

Also, are these just the free plugins anyway? So what's being gained here other than a marketing line? I hope they are at least paying Air Windows a representative fee.

Yeah it would make more sense to delete them all and use the gui free versions

I also have Melodyne 4 Studio and don't give a rat's arse about Autotune (or any other included content, for that matter). Never asked for it either - and they call it "basic" themselves after all.

They can really go and f**k themselves. They upped the upgrade price with each new version (i.e. each f**king year).
I budgeted the expected $59 for the upgrade, so it is annoying to find out it's $69, especially when the added plugins and synth are all worse than plugins I already have. Already have Melodyne Studio, Autotune 8, bunch of other Antares plugins, lots of good saturation plugins, good subtractive synths... so I agree it would be better if we could forego these unwanted add-ons for a lower upgrade price. I might just wait until it goes on sale.
Does it have ARA2 now?

At least they do not avertise it, so probably no...

Yes, he sold it to omeone else instead. Tracktion is now a US-based company. (RMS and Roli are British).

I think part of the problem is that Jules seems to get bored quickly. I still remember how he back when he sold Tracktion to Mackie promised that nothing would change because he would stay the principal developer.

I think the Tracktion development must be one of the most erratic ones in the entire history of computer-software.

Long time Tracktion user. I think I started with T1 or T2 and instantly fell in love. A ton of features have been added but the single screen has managed to remain relatively uncluttered. It's difficult to give up this workflow for me. I'm on Waveform 8 now. It's been crashing a lot but I suspect it's one or few of my plugins. W10 has a plugin validator that figures out which plugins are likely to cause problems and which are expected to be free of such problems, as far as I understand. Would be a great feature. Unfortunately, I can't afford the update and I'm waiting for a sale now.

I would love to try Studio One but there's no point since I won't be able to afford it. It's nice not to put all your eggs in the same basket. I still worry sometimes what would happen if Tracktion were to disappear (less likely for Presonus) (aside from all the positive word going around about Studio One).

Studio One is available on Splice's rent to own plan and has a 14 day free trial. Just sayin' :borg:

Hmm... Enticing. At least it makes it meaningful to demo S1 now. I'm still not sure about buying--rent or not--because eventually 400 dollars will go out of my pocket. (If you were in a country whose economy was definitely sinking, you'd understand my need to be so cautious as the breadwinner of the house).

Definitely nice to know still. Thanks!

You could wait for a sale. They surely will have one on Black Friday, if not earlier.

Black Friday is too far away. Currently W8 is crashing 2-3 times in a short session. I don't know how much patience I have and I don't really want to individually experiment with my plugins to find out which ones are responsible (that is, in case it's really the plugins and not something about W8 or Windows or whatever).

Hmm... I think I qualify for the EDU license for S1, a lot cheaper than the regular license at least. Does the EDU price also get reduced during sales or no?

You can get an S1 version 4 in the KVR marketplace for $150 ...

Well, paypal left the country I'm in, so I'd have to use some other method if the seller accepts. But I'll keep an eye on the forum. Thanks.

I demo'd W10 tonight and looks a bit slicker and I like the new synth 4OSC. I see some new modifiers and I was excited to try MultiSample and Chord Track. But it's still crashing. I ran the plugin validator with some of the plugins that were involved in my previous crashes and they all passed the test. So I don't know why W is crashing so often for me. It was just becoming a creatively really exciting DAW but the thing is I have to reboot after every crash, which is annoying as hell.

I remembered that I already had downloaded the S1 demo. It looks cool but things are so different that I couldn't even get a sound out of it. Bleeh.... I really don't wanna give up the workflow in W.

5 pages and nobody has mentioned yet the brilliant Groove Dr that was added in W10? I love this DAW the only thing I miss from Reaper is a range select tool across the arrangement to select multiple tracks and keep them positioned in time relative to each other to paste somewhere else in the arrangement. The only time W10 really crashes for me is when I try to use the Multi Sampler to record off YouTube. I really hope they get this fixed.

Also the DAW Essentials are trash anybody saying you can't use it without them is ignoring things like the free Dead Duck, Melda, and Bluecat Bundles that are available. There are a million free plugins who can find time to use the stock ones?

W10 does have range selection, isn't that the same thing?

Remember too, if you want to cancel it's kosher. I did that because I just wanted to concentrate on Reason (not good at being a DAW ho  )

You can find S1 in the market place pretty cheap so you could demo it for a couple of months, then buy it that way if you want, then cancel :)
