don't take it personally, I never like to say something and a distorted version of it comes back argumentatively. It would be foolish to argue a demonstrable fact, but I wasn't.
I mean I'm quite aware of the trope put out there, and I experienced it (and bought Logic and DP behind it, before VE Pro), but today as a generalization 'cubase runs like ass on mac', I don't know about that.

Probably in general, lower latency on windows. But, I tweak Cubendo and latency compensation, and the performance with the new machine is pretty good.

I'm not known to be politically correct. You got me there.

Cubase doesn't run if you don't attach a specific piece of hardware to your computer. So of course it requires Steinberg hardware to run.
This should be in the "Quoted Out Of Context" thread.
And he may have been talking about Cubase Elements.

IMO that's reportable as off-topic, it's useless. 'Steinberg hardware' was obv. controllers, interfaces, and they just came out with a quasi-hardware synth.

And it isn't even Steinberg hardware. At least it didn't use to be. I think now eLicenser is indeed Steinberg, but, it used to come from another company, as far as i know.

You certainly were not. Some daw users have this odd thing they often do where they assume their personal truth or experience is universal. If X daw is crashing all over the place for them on X plafform or whatever, it must also be true for the entire universe.

That kind of unsupported extrapolation is pretty widspread.

I can't find any reference to this on their forums
+1

Anyone have an answer to this question ?

Can a crossgrade be sold as a full version ?

It is. The whole objection was 'your experience is your experience, it isn't universal.'. I don't see how difficult that is to get.

EG: I don't find Logic's handling of controller lanes conducive enough for me. Some people aren't worried. There's nothing to argue, it's subjective. Opinion as fact, well, it runs well enough here and the communication with VE Pro, which is crucial for me, is the better communication for several reasons, which are factual. However some people get on with it anyway, loving Logic.

I think considering resale of a crossgrade as not a crossgrade is basically not ethical, in that you used a product to qualify and you're keeping that product. You're trying to get over. Not like I'm (figuratively, now) calling the police or anything, but that's so capitalistic it kind of chafes.

Cubase is well known to have very poor performance on Mac. If you don’t believe me then buy it and cry later when you run back to dp or logicpro
The hell freezes over before I would buy a mac ... I am not a big fan of sects

I agree - even though I am the one asking the question.

I currently own Studio One 4 Pro, and was going to stick with it, until I saw this tempting offer, so its an impulse buy which I might regret, and it would be nice to know if I could get my money back.

Its nice to know that Yamaha are in this for purely ethical consideration. :)

It actually wasn’t that expensive, used around a grand.

topaz wrote: Thu May 09, 2019 2:39 pm Not here, Mac Pro 5.1 12 core running 10.13.6 is flying, and plugin count is more than double of live 9.

Suits me :-)

If it wasn't flying on that beast of a machine, there'd be something wrong. Most people can't afford or need such a computer.
I'm gonna stay with Logic for now. If my iMac dies before I deem it ready to go, there's a good chance I'll move away Apple, for desktops, anyways. Then I'll probably have a look at Cubase. On principle, though, I take issue with any company that makes me pay extra for their protection.

@dellboy: Well, you can always resell it as a crossgrade but it's inconvenient to sell the dongle. Still, you could possibly make money (though I wouldn't count on a tidy amount)

Happy to report that I downloaded & installed the 20 GB demo (well, skipped installing the samples) and now I have this weird issue: some plugins' windows are cropped and seems to be no way to display it entirely. Some of the plugins that have zoomable interfaces work (like ANA2) and some don't (like Falcon and Avenger). Is this known? In Ableton live and Vienna Ensemble Pro although they both have HiDPI modes I have no issues...

2560x1440 monitor, 150% Windows 10 scaling and HiDPI mode enabled in Cubase (otherwise the interface looks really fuzzy).
