Here are the proofs needed for crossgrades. It's in Japanese, but there are pictures and you can auto-translate with chrome. Doesn't seem to be available on the english website.

Question to all you Cubase experts. I bought Cubase pro 10 and installed it. I am now scanning all my plugin folders and so far so good. I know Padshop and Retrologue 2 should be included but I can't find them anywhere. Do I need to download and install them separately?

Just running on memory but I recall having a similar thing. Are they vst3? In which case its a scan directory issue. Sorry that's all I've got.

Thanks! That's worth looking into. Perhaps they are vst3 only.

By default, they're installed to:

VST2: C:/ProgramFiles/Vstplugins
VST3: C:/ProgramFiles/Common Files/VST3/Steinberg

You can't change the location in the installer.

That's interesting to know. I will check is there is anything in those folders. I installed the whole cubase into another HDD and that seems to have worked fine. I assumed everything would be installed in the chosen location.

Am I tempted by the crossgrade? YES!!!

TBH, all temptation i might still have is killed by the fact that i'd have to pay for an upgrade to the next version every year... don't get me wrong, i think Steinberg is doing a nice job, and, i wish them all the best, but, for a guy like me, who is a total hobbyist, and always is tempted to upgrade to the next version, that's not the right scheme.

Apparently you can buy the 0.5 version and hold onto it for a free upgrade to the next major version. If you pick up the 0.5 for half price in one of their sales this could end up making the upgrades relatively cheap.
Signatures are so early 2000s.

Fair enough. I must admit, though, that i appreciate the less hectic development in Studio One. No paid 0.5 upgrades, and no new paid version every year.

So, in order to benefit from the Grace Period, I can buy v10 now and then wait with the activation until 10.5 is out, correct?

From the Steinberg website:

"Grace Period

Customers who activated a product shortly before the release of a newer version are eligible for a free Grace Period update to the new version."

My guess is that if you don't activate your version of 10, you can activate it during the release of 10.5 to get 10.5 for free.

The price for Pro is really good right now but, I can’t quite get past that USB license thing. So...if I were to buy a download version of Cubase, I would have to run it in Demo mode until the license key showed up, correct? Then again maybe it’s fully functional for a limited time. The only other thing that bugs me is that I only have so many USB3 ports on a MacBook Pro (I can get a hub, I know), and now I get to make a permanent spot for the Cubase Dongle. Not sure how I feel about that.

You can't demo Cubase Pro or Artist without a dongle. You need a trial license, which will reside on the dongle.

The only Cubase version which you can demo without the physical dongle (you'll need to install the eLicenser software though) is Cubase Elements, whose trial license will work in the soft eLicenser.
