I use Pro on a desktop and keep Elements on a laptop because I'd rather not switch the dongle around all the time.
That is an interesting idea. I am assuming you can open up element projects in pro but not the other way around? Or can you open up pro projects as long as you do not use pro features?
Although I've been using it forever, I'm just a hobbyist dabbler.
I don't do serious projects, I start stuff, listen to it, and mostly toss it when I'm done.
If I do something with one or the other, that's where it stays.
So, sorry to say, I never tried what you suggest.
They both save projects as .cpr files, so I guess it would mostly work.

Don't we dabble all in one way or the other. :)

Turns out that there actually is some project interoperability which even goes both ways (with limitations). I do sometimes find myself in the situation that I would like to start it up but can't because I do not have the dongle with me.

I had an unused Cubase LE license lying around. The upgrade to Elements is currently a measly $25, so I went for that. Thanks for the tip!

I leave the dongle for the Pro permanently connected to the back of the desktop. I forget it's there sometimes.

I goof around with the laptop more, so I use elements on that one. Pro has a lot of features I don't use.
Elements doesn't have side chaining or midi fx, but there's no problem running most of my soft synths, and most of the other stuff in Pro like surround and such I would never use.

It works for me.
I'm sure you'll find Elements really handy.
I always get nervous using a dongle in the laptop, because I dropped it on its side and broke one once.

So.. .where are we with the Cubase saga? Are we going to have a slew of Cubase pros in the next year or a flood of Cubase for sale posts on KVR?

I dunno if this has been mentioned yet. But you can demo Cubase Elements 10 without a USB elicenser. Elements has less features, there’s a comparison table on the website, but the workflow is identical and it gives you an idea of how Cubase will perform on your system.

Cubase is overkill for most regular song writing. Cubase is comparable to Samplitude in terms of feature set. Samplitude going on sale last year doesn’t seem to have changed much around these parts. I think people will stick to what they’re comfortable with.

Ya - Elements is a fantastic bargain.
I'd bet that 99% of everything I hear online could be done with Elements.

It uses the soft elicenser which just ties it to your computer so you don't need a dongle.
If you want to use it on multiple computers though, then you need to transfer the license to a dongle.

I have a Cubase (whatever) license, I like it well enough to go for the elements upgrade. :tu:

How do people handle vocal pitch correction without the Pro version?

Post

Hmm, $170 for the crossgrade is a pretty good deal. Although, I don't really 'need' Cubase
as I can qualify for it with 5 separate licenses

There....convinced myself for the next half hour at least... :help:
Don't forget that you will have to most likely upgrade for $99 (I think) in November to 10.5! Maybe that will buy you another half hour. Anyway good luck resisting the tempation, I gave in and grabbed Cubase. I demoed it for a few days and was actually quite impressed with the Midi editing capabilities. Even if I only use it as a (fancy?) midi editor it will be worth it ;)

As they say on the web site (https://www.steinberg.net/en/shop/crossgrades.html) you have to provide a receipt , a photo of the package / cd whatever (if you bought a physical version, and showing the unique serial number) or a screenshot of your product registration . They say it can take up to two days to verify. It only took 1/2 day for mine (I provided a purchase receipt).

You can start the purchase process and submit your proof now -- they do not ask for any payment information until this step is complete (if you are worried that your proof is insufficient). The whole process is a bit clunky but workable.

LoveEnigma18 wrote: Fri May 10, 2019 6:25 pm Yeah, if e-licenser was not required, there would have been even more sales.
Not sure about that, but there would definitely be more piracy. E-Licenser with dongle just works, the last Cubase version that ever got 'cracked' is Cubase 5. The only newer versions of Cubase that got pirated are the Elements versions because they don't require a dongle.

I recently purchased a new PC and found that Cubase was actually one of the easiest things to get up and running. Just move the dongle to the new PC, download and install Cubase and it just works without any online activation or entering serials.
Yes, I did not mention about piracy, but I do agree with you on that. My intention when I say it is a headache is actually: It's not a problem once you have it, it's just inconvenient to get Cubase Pro in the first place. It also adds to the cost, so...

I have convinced myself to skip getting Cubase Pro, at least this time around.

If you don't have the pro version, you have to have better singers.

There are other similar tools in other DAWs. At least in FL there is.
