thanks. It took me until 3-ish in the morning to download Elements, so I only messed around with it for a few minutes, but, other than the 'oddness' of the layout in comparison to Logic, it worked fine. No latency issues, and all my 3rd party AUs loaded as VSTs. I will see what I will see, but I think I will probably buy Elements, at least.

Jan,

That would infuriate me, too. I've had a couple of experiences buying software on weekends, only to have something not work properly. Hope you get it sorted, soon.

It's going to take a little getting used to. I hated 9.5.x interface when I upgraded from 8.x. My understanding is they have changed 10.x even more so.

I've got a year subscription at MacProVideo, and they have a bunch of tutorials on Cubase 10. So, I expect I'll have a look at those. I have the go-ahead from my wife to get Pro, but I am uncommitted to that at this point.

I wonder if I'd bought it straight from Steinberg if this happens. Went to save four whole dollars. Kind of pissed with myself.
I'm less p.o.'d if it's happening to people other than me, but this is preposterous.

For people who have used both Cubase and Cakewalk/Sonar, is Cubase a significant improvement over Cakewalk?

Just found my receipt for Logic Pro X, so I've ordered Pro. I was comparing feature sets between it and Artist, and there's things in the Pro version that I want. I'll have to wait a bit for it to come in stock, though.

Cheaper this way, by about €20. it's shown as available within 1-2 weeks.

I told myself I wasn't going to do this. :dog:

I haven't used cubase that much, but recently I've been using cubase 10 LE and Cubase's interface looks more newer, but it's harder to navigate than cakewalk by bandlab. It's not as intuitive as cakewalk as well. Cubase has better effects and a lot more extras and features than the current cakewalk by bandlab.

I'd say it's worth checking out the demo at least.

I'm thinking about getting the pro version.

Question: how often does Steinberg have ½ price sales on Cubase?

I stopped using Cakewalk not too long after it became Sonar, but tried all I could (including Cubase) back in the day -- Specifically once Propellerhead allowed live Audio into their "DAW" in ver 5 I focused on Reason (I try to stick with 1 DAW and learn it in and out). Then went back to Reaper with Reason rewired a few years ago after Reason's stagnant development in areas I felt necessary, and now see myself going forward with Cubase and VSTs/Rewire when needed.

The best answer is Cubase is 'mature', and focuses on "DAW". Really its that simple, everything just makes sense immediately if you have any extended experience in any flavors of DAWs. They all do the same thing pretty much, and Steinberg got the workflow down man, really. Just packed with DAW bells and whistles , cutting edge in pushing hardware/software tech/bitrates, all kinda stuff that makes the move smooth and exhilaratingly satisfying going forward.

I couldn't care less about any of the loops and junk (and there's quite a bit of it) - honestly I avoid that crap like the plague (its fun, dont get me wrong, but its not for me). Native pitch editing was one of the few things holding me back from dropping Reason, and I'm pretty sure I won't be loading Reaper much any more either -- with the new Variaudio 3 improvements and cheap crossgrade, plus the nuggets I already mentioned and a ton I haven't, its the move I've been waiting to make.
Have you tried Vital?

Maybe twice a year?

Not quite... this is the first 50% off Steinberg sale i've ever seen. I've seen them do 40% off and 25% off, but, not 50% off.

KVR unfortunately doesn't seem to list sales anymore in the developer News archive.
