Back to the original question. I like when product websites are neatly laid out, there are audio demos, YouTube videos and downloads are hassle free (no iLok, preferably simply a dll file). So: well-packaged product information rather than hype.
Best marketing?

Interesting to see how many state they buy only if the product is really necessary. If that were true, we would all use a freeware DAW (say Studio One free), purchase Xpand2 for one dollar and call it a day.
KVR would be history.

I happen to teach e-commerce, and a week ago I used this as a great example of what I mean: https://www.sonible.com/smarteq2/
The contents of the (long) scrolling webpage:
Presentation image and hype
YouTube intro movie
Features overview
Testimonials
Purchase
Feature comparison chart
Tutorials
Press
(Missing: Awards)
Specifications (incl download)
(Missing: link to community)
(Webpage footer)

Just an FYI - 6.0 will be a version number change, a reworked GUI and probably not so much else. That said, the new wiring view, which has been in and out of the pre-releases for a while, might make it into 6, and there's also some nice work going on with the cc lanes. But, REAPER tends not to introduce big features with major number updates; Notation came in 5.2, Automation Items sometime during the 5.x line.harryupbabble wrote: Fri Aug 10, 2018 2:54 pm I am waiting for REAPER 6.0. I will definitely buy that.
Maybe if Dan Worrall did a 'this isn't any DAW, this is a Cockos DAW...' in his best Marks & Spencer's treacley sex panther voice, then it would definitely be marketing; Kenny Gioia's vids (in his best Christopher Walken voice...), are definitely more instructional than promotional. That will be my first and probably last internet purchase. I don't think that REAPER even has marketing. I've never seen an advert or anything like that.
I guess I've seen videos about REAPER's capabilities. Maybe that's marketing. Or maybe it's just endorsement of REAPER by other users.

All marketing is designed to manipulate our wants, which is evil. I can't support that. It upsets me every day. I guess my favourite style is when developers make excellent, well-designed products and then keep their customers happy after the sale, so everybody knows how great they are and keeps harping on about how great they are, and word of mouth does the rest.
Not very helpful, admittedly.

He's no treacly sex panther, though.

He gets told constantly on Twitter. And he does love a Brexit rant
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Twitter is much better than FB. I’m not on the latter at all but always on Twitter.
140 characters is generally the limit of what I’m prepared to read of other people’s opinions

I do enjoy MJUC. Maybe he'll hire Barry Scott to do some walkthrough vids?
