I've made an app that allows you to use "scale mode" on your Launchpad Mini and Launchpad Standard. It currently runs on Mac and iOS (the Mac version was just released).

There are a couple of things like this already if your using Live suite (or have MFL).

Of course, that may not have the fit and finish of OPs product, on the other hand, it's done in MFL so you can easily add to it whatever features that you want. Of course launchpad also does a very simple version of this out of the box.
In any case, given the launchpad's lack of velocity sensitivity it's bit of a stretch to say it's like "linstrument." It's more like a simple push or launchpad pro.
