What's the state of Physical Modelling VSTs in 2019? MPE support a bonus.

I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but by far the best general purpose physical modeling synth I’ve played with MPE is the Haken Continuum.

Actually, the short list of physical modeling that I genuinely like and use regularly only consists of the Continuum, Audiomodeling plug-ins, Chromophone, the Korg Wavedrum, and Mutable Instruments Eurorack modules.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Same can be found in reaktor ( primary modules ) the modal bank an partial bank is reaktor can go up to 10000 parials ...so lot's more of options there >
If you have reaktor , I created the ensemble just for you ,here I only used 32 /64 partials

Hi, I'm the developer of Respiro, a new expressive Physical Modelling wind-synth developed in partnership with Nusofting and JB audio. Designed to respond to pressure input. Although a mono synth, features are available to allow playing with keyboard (Velocity and Aftertouch) and continuous expression controllers - (MPE controllers such as Seaboard, Linnstrument etc).

It is mission critical for me to understand what further direction to take. The Respiro architecture is flexible to grow based on what the community wants. So, tell me, should I go for ;
Option A) more authentic instruments.
Option B) more outer-world instruments kind of avant-garde.
Option C) effect engine by allowing audio input.

Also, I made a powerful editor for the VL70m / PLGVL, this allows you to design your on Physical Modelling voices for VL70m / EX5 or Yamaha synth with PLG VL card.

I have the expertise to make a making a deep editor for VL1 and VL7 but up to now I'm getting insufficient requests. So, contact me if you own such synth.

No 'Physical Modelling' as such. It's mostly a combination of analogue subtractive, FM, and Comb filtering with some help from the TinCan reverb which can function as a simple resonator, plus other effects like the formant filter. However, Cypher's elaborate COMB filter (8 modes) can be very useful here and does bring a flavour of Physical Modelling. With some smart editing, it can be very convincing in creating hybrid, unheard of 'acoustic'-style sounds (when used with an MPE controller).

Here's a few examples of how it can sound, for those who haven't tried Cypher2 (all sounds by yours truly)

We should talk then. :)

Personally, I always look to see if a PM synth has the capability to take the sound into the uncharted territory. On the one hand it's great to have authentic recreations of acoustic sounds, but on the other, it's even more exciting for me to be able to push it further away, still keeping the overall 'acoustic aura' about the sound, but make it unique. These are what I call the 'Atlantis' sounds, which maybe existed on a long lost continent, but no longer do. Recognisable but strange. :)

For example, I'd love to be able to mangle some of the Audio Modelling sounds, but the SWAM audio engine does not allow deeper editing and pushing the sound into an avant-garde territory. Although my good friends at Audio Modelling know how much I want them to make a new plugin that does allow that. :) Maybe one day.

I have to agree. The Eagan Matrix is unique and sounds simply amazing. Very powerful, maybe difficult to use, especially when it comes to understanding all the 'formulas', but the results are outstanding.

However, the Eagain Matrix shows that it's not just about the actual synth engine, but how it is controlled via the human touch. So the very complex formula system is the key here. This is what makes this engine sing. I think this is what a lot of developers forget: realtime expression. This is why I could never get along with Modelonia (and some AAS synths) as it didn't have the right stuff to control the sound in realtime. However, what is also important is how everything is presented to the user so that everyone can add their own expression without having to understand some complex mathematic formula systems.

About VST2

Well, I'm new on the market of synth developers and Steinberg/Yamaha is not releasing VST2 licenses anymore. I could only get authorisation for VST3i. Sorryyyyyy

Post

Too bad, though I don’t care about VST2, but I got a license just in case... I don’t know if that would work out if you would hire me...??? I suspect it would not though...
