Incredibly frustrating Cubase SE2 issue

Hi,

When I record MIDI live to a track in SE2, the notes are delayed and appear on the track between half a bar and two bars after they are played. (the delay is constant for each recording). This is with a brand new empty project. My machine has: Win XP Sp2 / XP2600+ / 1Gb RAM / DMX 6Fire...

Any ideas? This is a really frustrating issue. I'm sure I've just messed with a setting somewhere, but have no idea what I've done.
