So does anybody with some know-how want to request the source code of the new (payware) OB-Xd for iOS (which as far as I can tell he's obligated to provide since it's a derivative of something licensed under GPL v3) and build and release it for free? :)

I own a lot of his products and actually was pretty annoyed when he disappeared considering how buggy he left Bliss. He has always been a terrible business person, and I don't think he has any new ideas for products either, so all he has left is this cloud. George joins a growing list of devs I will no longer support because of their terrible support.

source for the claim of OB-Xd being based on GPLv3 software?

Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

The post above this is likely bait, viewer discretion is advised.

just because they share a name doesn't mean it's the same software. do you have a source that specifically says that discoDSP OB-xd is based off this open-source project?

also, discoDSP may have obtained a license to use the source from the original author. for example, if you write a library/program that's GPLv3, i must release my software under GPLv3 if i made use of it, except if i contacted you and you gave me permission to use it under different license terms. the mere fact of something being distributed under GPLv3 doesn't mean every single usage of the code will be covered under GPLv3 - the code may have licensed under a different license from the author, this is allowed (in fact, that's how JUCE works).

from the OB-xd page:
Thanks to 2Dat for the original OB-Xd and Soshi Studio for giving the rights to continue this wonderful product.
Also thanks to all KVR members for making the amazing skins!
i'm not sure of the relation between 2Dat and Soshi Studio, but it seems that OB-xd is properly licensed, so you won't be able to claim GPLv3 violation and force discoDSP to distribute its source code.

however, if Soshi Studio's OB-xd was just a fork of 2Dat's software project, then this is indeed GPLv3 violation. starting a fork is allowed because it's still under GPLv3, but having a fork doesn't entitle you to relicense the entire codebase under a different license or grant you authorship of said code. so, unless 2Dat has transferred the copyright to Soshi Studio or granted them permission to relicense the code, discoDSP would be in violation of the GPLv3.

Originally, and still (I think), this is a JUCE plugin.
