Vertion wrote: Wed May 29, 2019 1:22 am I have dealt with public shaming for a long time and seen just how destructive it can be to the survival of not just one person, but their family and their community.

I would say, rebuke DiscoDSP, absolutely, but give the company a chance to apologize and mend it's position. If you never give a positive out, then the situation will not improve. Rebuke, yes, but this should not be a public hanging. Let DiscoDSP share their side of the story. You are assuming it's all blind greed and deception, and a shame if it is so, but if the company is desperately trying to put food on the table for their family, that's another story.
I'm sorry, what?

What is stopping discoDSP from commenting on this thread? Or stopped them from commenting when the OP had originally contacted them? Or stopped them from posting an email to all of their customers? Or posting a note on their website? Or taking just about any other possible route of communicating with customers before and after doing this?

No one deletes discoDSP's posts here, no one took their website or the mailing list, or their social media, away. Their silence is their choice. So I'm sorry but I don't feel sorry for discoDSP - if they can delete people's posts with legitimate questions from their forum, they surely have the opportunity to clear the air. It makes me sad that no matter how unethical or questionable the dev's behavior is, there will always be people defending them.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

But, this is the world of plugins and I went in knowing the risks based on the devs track record. So, I'm not surprised and not too concerned about it. i think it would be a long time before I'd need to update so if I have to pay $30 to do that every 4-5 years I'm ok with that, as long as the guy stays in business. the latter is what will kill the plugins. this is an evolving/devolving market that is constantly changing. it takes more guts to be in the plugin market than in the stock market! :tu:
Following his customer friendly attitudes you'll rather pay for every year afterwards.

He already deleted your posting in his subforum. Legitimate complaining isn't allowed over there.

Anyway, good we have this thread as replacement: Just hope it doesn't get out of hand.

Yeah, I just noticed that. He will never get another penny from me. Even if he changes his mind to try to save his business, the damage is done!

If he is desperately trying to put food on the table for his family, then he may have just guaranteed they will starve.

It's not like he got caught stealing a loaf of bread. That's different. Instead, he cuts off his own nose...

You cant be serious.

Some people go out and rob stores. Normally they would be arrested and put away because you obviously cant go around grabbing other peoples money in order to pay for your expenditures. But now we should first check whether they were just trying to put food on the table? Seriously? Since when does that matter?

Im sure many if not most of those who go out doing shitty things to others in order to deprive them of their cash are desperate in some way or other, else they would probably use their time for something more enjoyable and less likely to award them multiple years in a state penitentiary. But that can hardly be a justification for the damage that this causes to the people that are being harmed by it, so i really dont see how it would be a 'different story' in this case. On the contrary, its the exact same principle of 'give me the cash or else', which in this particular case technically amounts to blackmail since people who have already payed for a product wont be getting access to it unless they surrender the amount of cash demanded by the 'cloud service'.

Im sure you thought you were being all wise and erudite and shit with that homily, but this isnt evil, its just greed.

I just hope George is reading this thread so he can see what an idiotic thing he did. Actually, I know he's reading it because he PM'd me to tell me off.

Thanks for pointing up but that’s off topic. Site owners are already aware of it. Insulting reputable developers seems the new trend at KVR. Sad situation.
Sad situation indeed, what an arrogant attitude. And I almost purchased one of their products

Any sane, ”reputable” developer or company wouldn’t even dream of doing a move like this without tons of proper precautions towards existing customers, such as notifying about a grace period where existing customers should re-download their products before this stupid solution comes into play.

And the way he acts elsewhere on the site and wilfully ignores the topic at hand is shameful.
