Yeah, that stuff was always easy in Orion because you could nominate a sample editor and right-click on any audio in the timeline and "Edit with...". To me that was as good s having it built in, right up until it stopped auto-updated when you saved your changes. Then it became a huge PITA.
You're right about the MIDI editing, though, it's way, way better than I could have dreamed of. As much as I love Orion and everything it has enabled me to do, I can't wait to leave it behind completely and move on.

I never guessed I would see the day that you'll write this

That means nothing is impossible!
Well, for me, I think I'm convinced more and more to stay with Bitwig as my main DAW. I will sell S1 and Live to cover the expenses to upgrade to the latest version. Anyway, I still have Notion 6 for staff/piano learning lessons ... etc, while Samplitude can be used as a second stage (mixing and sound proving) after Bitwig. I think it is a good general plan that cover everything
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Yeah and I never imagined a time when Rich would give up on it. It's taken a few years but there are just too many little niggly issues that will never be addressed now. e.g. My Skulpt won't read program changes from Orion and even though Modal's support guys were bending over backwards to try and help me with it, they couldn't install Orion and see what the problem was for themselves, which made it too hard to find it and fix it.crimsonwarlock wrote: Fri May 31, 2019 6:45 amI never guessed I would see the day that you'll write this![]()
And the situation now, moving from one to the other all the time is the worst, which is why I want to get everything across to Cubase to restore some sanity to my workflow. It's not that I want to be rid of Orion, it's that I don't want to be using multiple hosts.
I may even have found a worthy successor to Wasp. I was playing around with ArcSyn tonight and got really close to the type of sound we use Wasp for all the time. A bit of tweaking and I reckon we can get it close enough for a live set and it will definitely do the same job in any new songs we need it for. It was the last piece of the puzzle and it looks like we've got it covered.

Cubase has a sampler instrument where you can take whatever you're doing and make an instrument out of that, essentially. and those files appear in the Audio Pool, and as that type for clarity.
Ah, yon found it.

hmm. I've been using renoise for over 10 years , never had an issue controlling my hardware over midi .Straight2Vinyl wrote: Thu May 30, 2019 5:49 pmbut I use Renoise still because by virtue of being a tracker it does things no regular DAW will ever be able to do and in an instant. If you don't work with samples, of someone else's material or your own, they may not matter. However, if you do, the sample effects are pretty incredible. On the other hand, it is useless for live recording either audio performance or MIDI(unless you record a single note part like just a kick, snare or hat).BONES wrote: Thu May 30, 2019 12:55 amCouldn't agree more. I've tried switching a couple of times before, once very seriously, but always gone back to Orion but the Steinberg sale got me on-board with Cubase and I am enjoying it more than I expected and way more than anything else I've tried. I can't get my head around the fact that people are happy to work in multiple hosts, I can't think of a bigger workflow killer.Psuper wrote: Tue May 28, 2019 10:04 pmHonestly though, the price is just too damn good to pass up, its been something on my radar for a long time. And while I can afford what I want, I'm not dumb with money (which is why I can afford what I want), and when this hit - I knew I was gonna bite.
... since Cubase has everything I need in one package, I'll probably completely convert eventually, I just prefer 1 DAW environment.

I'm finding so many amazing ways to work in Cubase. I think the best way to describe the experience is "Drag and Drop" heaven. I started in with Groove agent today working more with midi to compare it to Reason's Kong and Redrum with players. There is absolutely no comparison, not by miles. What you can do in Cubase with just about everything damn near instantly is mind blowing. With the patterns, styles all interchangeable, instant slicing and arranging of loops, dragging your own midi loops to the playing pad patterns, drag samples, randomizing fills, they way it handles the micro adjustments so "natural" actually sounds natural. I won't be looking back to any other software here on out, and I know there's so much more to discover.
The only thing left for me to replace is the Vocoder - I used them a ton, and spent a good portion of work in Reason crafting vocoder patches, specifically with Parsec and a few other instruments (the effects chains aren't needed). Anyone with experience in Parsec knows what I'd mean, and I'd love to know if there's any alternatives out there I could integrate into Cubase so I don't need to rewire Reason at all anymore. I'm not looking for the "classic" vocoder, I need voice-sculpting. I created basslines, leads and effects with Parsec vocoding that no one would ever expect came from a human voice. I've tried several in the past that didn't cut it, but stopped looking a couple years ago. Any thoughts?

Just out of interest: Which OS are you on? At least with Windows 10, there's always the slight chance that a future update will break compatibility with Orion... it shouldn't happen, after all, Windows is pretty much the role model in terms of compatibility, but, you never know. Normally, it's also about how the application itself is coded, which dependencies there are, etc., of course.AnX wrote: Fri May 31, 2019 6:13 am cant move on, i would have to quit music.
im too old to waste my time learning a new host, it would be a massive undertaking

Rich had said he would do fixes to keep it running if it was simple enough.
