U-HE may not have the biggest number of staff but they are a big name in audio. Therefore, it could be argued that they are indeed a big company.

You're probably looking for the right factors to determine it's size, which should obviously be active customers. The total number of sales, revenue and profits are what determines how big a company is. Which results in the total number of people that are employed. The more customers you have, the more customer service reps you need, etc.

Not izotope for sure, they make upgrading impossibly out of reach financially, everytime I check my upgrades they seem to be expecting even more silly money, and ruin good products like Iris then allow them to die on the vine after their poor judgement leads to people losing interest

Izotope, 142 employees and 6.8 million in annual revenue.

Their business model is strange to say the least, but they seem to be very profitable.

With what arguments... that they are recognizable on the forums dedicated to plugins?

Because they are familiar to you as a seasoned KVRveteran (where they have a dedicated forum and where he won the KVRdev challenge in 2006), they are a big company?

I don’t think people have a firm grasp on just how niche this part of the audio world really is.

You don’t think people at kvr have a firm grasp on reality? U-HE are a BIG NAME in the SOFT-SYNTH world. Better?

Familiar name on KVR does not mean it’s a big company, only that you recognize it easily but do others recognize it as easily as you do?

Urs even mentioned that it would have been crazy to pass on tapping into NI’s user base for the recent sale... (Native-Instruments) a company that annually takes in over 100 million a year and has 519 employees.

Only on a place like KVR do these two companies have seemingly equal footing in terms of familiarity.

Big fish in a small pond? If I go to Gearslutz (where the real professionals hang out allegedly) everybody there seems to be familiar with U-HE. If I pick up a dedicated music technology magazine, or look at one on-line, everybody there seems to be familiar with U-HE. If I go to BIG on-line sellers etc. DIVA and so on are often recommended as being the best of the best for certain tasks.

U-HE are a BIG NAME imho.

Have to fully agree on this. There are many people that haven't heard of uhe yet (judging by looking into other forums or talking to people at fairs). Same for many other very genre-specific (e.g. Vengeance Sound or xfer for EDM) or plugin-type-specific (synths like Nexus, eq, guitar amps) companies. Even FabFilter which I'd consider a big company just by their quality plugins, customer service and reputation is still pretty small in reality.

And I am suggesting it’s not as big as you think.

I believe and hope they are on their right track to growing at a maintainable rate. I do like and use their products, but they are still a smaller fish, but it wouldn’t seem so when viewing forums dedicated to plugins and the magazines, but these are all niche locations for discussing and reading about these things.

I am suggesting it skews the perspective.

Precisely. There are many people I interact with (in the real world, not on forums) that for example, know and use Ableton Live, or Logic or Pro Tools, but have no idea who or what U-he is.

And yes, likewise for Fabfilter.

Most pursuits are niche. I couldn't tell you who won the tennis, the soccer, the rugby, the horse race, the art competition, chef of the year etc but people who are into that know about those things.

U-HE are a BIG name.

Nothing bad to say about Imageline. Also Eventide and Waldorf have been great.
