There's also the ever-asked question of samples and wavetables, etc. There are some features like harmonic analysis in the modal filter and additive oscillator that I think should be safe to use. Any disagreements on that?
If I were starting I would do it adding some oscillator or wavetable module in generator, right there you have the option to load samples or wavetables and use the harmonics generator to shape the oscillator (there is not sampler in MSF yet).

Then adding the FollowerFilter or any of the per-voice effect and then go to the FX tab.

I think that the modal filter and additive generator does the job, but for me it doesn't get the results faster than with the Oscillator, Wavetables and FollowerFilter modules (I don't know, maybe is because I'm more familiar with wavetable and is more straightforward).

And after that you can create a preset to start faster with everything almost arranged like that, so you only would need to change the shapes of the oscillators or Wavetables or the presets in the FX section and tweak a little bit here and there.

Not a Melda user, here.

Is there a standalone installer (Windows) available for this synth? or Universal Installer, the only choice?

Personally, would prefer to avoid Softube kinda experience where one need to download their entire bundle of plugins to get free Softube Saturation Knob plugin.

Cheers!

Well you would need to download the installer that contains all the plug-ins, but you don't have to install all of it, only MSoundFactory or whatever you want from it.

It is only around 255MB, so is not like a big deal.

Unfortunately, it is a big deal from where I am situated (outskirts of a big city with patchy internet for non resumable downloads), right now.

Will still try downloading the whole bundle, though.

Cheers!

I couldn't show the process I was talking about to create quickly the presets, but now I can show what I was trying to explain. MSF is really more easy to use than what we think depending how far we want to go and a little learning curve.

If you want to shape the oscillators you can load any samples and edit the harmonics content or if it is with the wavetable module you can load the wavetables and apply some transformation with different modes and both of it with their respective unison.

You can even FM a wavetable module and a Oscillator with the merger block in the generator matrix and more possibilities.

Also open another oscillator if you want to use it as a sub oscillator with -1 octave negative and have a very big (fat?) preset init already fixed from where you can start easily creating presets.

And all of that shaping the envelopes in the globals or with the blocks, if you want to make it sound like a super synthesized flute, keys, plucks, accordion... or whatever you have in mind; don't forget to render with some upsampling, everything sounds super better with upsampling.

Ok that's good.

I'm really looking forward to playing with MSF. It's so deep. Look for instance at MTurboReverb... part of MSoundFactory... which let's you design your own reverb algorithm. Check out the video tutorials:

Ok, this one is big. Plenty of expoloration to do..
Are we allowed to use all effects in the FX tab right of the generator?

Post

Yeah, of course!
Anyway, this thing requires some studying for which I may not have time and I'd hate to junk up my brains with something I may never need again, really. Realistically speaking, I shouldn't even attempt it and it doesn't really speak to me anyway. I'll wait for a happy ONE PAGE synth again! ;)

I skimmed through the gigantic manual, and it actually seems pretty darn straightforward. Like Qyooo, the biggest thing I have to get used to is the GUI!! Per-voice processing, I am going to do some damage, I tell you. I'll certainly have to decide on directions before I go mindlessly patch-making. This thing looks like I could be strung along for a lot longer than the 1 month trial

Ok I think I'm out for this month as well. I spent a couple of hours on this, really tried, got some sound ideas that were approaching good but... I just can't get rid of the basic digitalness and thinness of the sound. I can't get it to work for me. The inteface certainly doesn't help. Good luck everyone and hopefully see you next month :)

If I could see the future I'd learn that I'm going to end this month with about 30 different MSF devices and a big smile on my faces from jamming with them. But no full finished track.
I can't see the future, so I'll see what I can do.

I'm enjoying this synth for the ability to make little devices and play. A couple XY controls and envelope sliders are maybe more interesting to me than all of the mess behind them. If anybody want some little toys to play with just ask; I'm happy to share.

You can definitely make this a one-pager in the Easy Menu, it just takes a bit of assembly first.

+1, <wink>
but I will listen to the entries.

Successfully downloaded the bundle and installed this plugin (along with other free FX that Melda offers).

My first reaction on the GUI was not very positive. I feel it is very intimidating (like the Waverazor thing), especially for a sound design noob like me.

Will give this another try over the weekend and see if I can make anything out of it.

Cheers!
