I think I get why people are not thinking of 70s music in a topic about 80s.Sound Together wrote: Fri Jun 07, 2019 6:06 pm No one was thinking about "Space" ? This song resonates in my head at night. aha
On topic: From 1980 this one. I think the first 2 albums were the best - downhill from there.

You're right 1977 is not exactly 1980. But it seems to me that the 80s did not essentially release exactly in 1980.I think I get why people are not thinking of 70s music in a topic about 80s.![]()

I'm cool with that! I just got a bit younger; this means I was born in the 80s!Sound Together wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2019 9:59 amYou're right 1977 is not exactly 1980. This is a couple recent songs by a band called B-Movie, who were around back in the day but never lasted long enough to release an album. But in the last decade or so they have got back together and put out a couple of decent albums and a few good EPs, too. They have an interesting pedigree. Their guitarist co-wrote some of Peter Murphy's most successful albums and played on a couple of others.
The clips look like they were made on the same day but the two songs are years apart.
This is another band with a similar history to B-Movie. 1919 released a few singles and an EP in the early 80s but broke up before they had recorded an album. A new version of the band got together a few years ago and they've put out two great albums. It is a lot more guitar driven but still great -

Old guys looking New Wave "bored" whilst strumming a Rickenbacker bass. Can't fail! And it doesn't.
I'm not sure Kebu belongs in the 80s. While he is influenced and pays homage, he doesn't actually sound 80s. Like Firechild, he is better than most but still has more on an EDM feel than real 80s (like these cool old guys).
Those first two Human League records are very 80s. The future never sounded better.

I don't know why but a lot of my favourite bass-heavy bands use Rickenbacker basses.

They have a great clanky sound that makes for a very clear but grunty bass in the mix (the guitars just jangle). Very popular in the 80s.BONES wrote: Sun Jun 09, 2019 3:36 am I don't know why but a lot of my favourite bass-heavy bands use Rickenbacker basses.

I assume most people who wasn't around at the time are aware of many of the hits of the 80's.
Songs you see in almost every 80's collection.
However many of the songs that where popular during my youth wasn't, always, one of those very well known songs.
Here are a few you might like if you like 80's synthpop:
* Hipnosis: Pulse star
* Matteo: Diavalo
* Fun Fun: Color My Love
* Robin Gibb: Juliet
* Ryan Paris: Dolce Vita
* Thompson Twins: Lay Your Hands On Me
* The Assembly: Never Never
* Fancy: Slice Me Nice
* Front 242: Quite Unusual
All of those songs where widely popular among people in my school with funny haircuts, shoulder pads and loads of mascara
