I do not want the computer right up by my face
Not sure Apple had Mr.Magoo in mind when they designed the all-in-one :P

However, trying to do anything that runs both the CPU & GPU at 100% for hours is... uh... not at all ideal on Apple’s compact computers. I’ve had a MacBook Pro die on me due to thermal design.

That’s why I’ve been waiting for a tower Mac Pro. I don’t know that I’ll ever go back to 3D rendering, but rendering Logic projects can peg the CPU at 100% and it always makes me paranoid on my MacBook Pro 5,5 (clearly worse off with thermals compared to my second-hand iMac 12,2).

I definitely wouldn’t game on these machines from Bootcamped Windows. I can’t afford to repeatedly replace self-destructing computers and I’m not sure their mobile GPU performance is acceptable. My intent was to use a new Mac Pro tower as a studio machine AND a moderate Windows gaming rig (no, I don’t care if it’s not a bleeding edge gaming GPU, I just want to be able to replace my old PC with something that I can use for the games I’ve been missing over the last six years).
The new 9th gen iMacs with Vega are supposed to be better in this regard and also quieter since they benefit from AMD’s die shrink. I have one on order and will report on my experience with it. I had my last iMac for 7 years and it never failed on me, which included lots of gaming (mainly WoW). I ended up replacing it with a 15” laptop and that’s the compromise I won’t ever make again.

When do Apple release the new Logic?

It’s hard to know what that even means anymore. Since Logic Pro X was released we’ve had 6 years of continual free major updates that could’ve easily been paid ones, so traditional version numbers have felt kind of meaningless.

the point is you can tuck it away and run a longer cable. you cannot tuck iMac away. not without wasting its screen anyway

There is room for something between the Mac Mini and the new Mac Pro. I'm happy with the Mac Mini as a dedicated audio machine for my simple needs but I'm sure plenty of people would want that in-between
I'd be happy if i could add another one and make it work as one.
as in, another CPU + 4 more thunderbolt ports. :D

Not in my workspace, which is our livingroom. There's no escaping that fan. My iMac has been almost completely silent, although Civ VI now reliably engages its fan. Logic, not yet.

tbh my mini (2018) is yet to trigger any serious fan noise on an average project.
wouldn't dare to play anything bigger than Chess on it tho, that GPU is crap.

Yeah, Civ VI won't work on the mini. My wife plays CIV IV on it, and the fan can be heard throughout our flat.

There’s so much other noise where I live, I don’t notice the fan if it ever comes on.

My new mini is quiet so far... it is a dedicated audio computer so that is all I use it for.

Are the question marks in the thread title an indication that this is unfounded speculation on the part of the OP, as I haven't heard anything about a Logic 11 release this year?

Correct.

The same question was posted (and written similarly) on various forums, probably because they were desperate for an answer, but not that it was actually based on anything back in August of 2018.
