I don't know about that, but the general public cannot afford this computer under any circumstances. And considering that studios are dying off, what makes apple think that that sector is in play.

Anyways, off topic, but I thought it was a funny TNC response to what you said. Now go buy a decent PC and get busy! :hihi:

Big music studios are dead. Tv/movie/video content studios are still very much a thing. The new Mac pro isn't made for us.

Well, you got that right

On topic though, Live seems to be running really smooth. Lots of additional content from Version 9 to explore which is nice. I don't know why LPX has been running so poorly lately (maybe it doesn't like Captain Chords plugins) but Live seems to be running very efficiently (not something I have really experienced in the past), so it may give me some time before I have to buy a new computer.

BTW, just for clarity, I'm using a Retina 5K 27" late 2015 iMac with 3.3GHz Core i5 and 8Gb RAM...so getting on a bit but you would think it would still handle Logic OK.

I feel like I'm going to switch to Live eventually. Been using Reaper with Renoise handling drums and samples. Having something that can do basically everything would simplify and speed things up a bit. Studio One is another contender, but that lack of track templates, after I've gotten so used to them in Reaper, could be a deal breaker.
Live Standard is probably my best option. I already have Komplete 11, Melodyne and a bunch of other vsts and samples so Suite seems less a necessity for me. I mean having everything under 1 roof is ideal, but it's $750 Canadian. That's a lot to justify for anything non-essential.

I'll probably have to give that one a look as well.

Can anyone tell me if Live 10 has track templates? I use them all the time in Reaper now and am wondering if there is something that works in a similar manner. In Reaper, you just right click and select insert track from menu to bring up a template track with any instruments/effects and settings. I use it on almost every track and it's something I'd hate to lose migrating to another DAW.

Not really, no. You can save default state for audio track and for MIDI track but that's it. However you can create chains of devices you typically use and have them stored in your favourites to drag into the main project.

Incidentally this might be easier in Bitwig, where you can have several projects open at once, so - for example - you can create a template project with as many "template tracks" as you like, each with its own settings and devices already on it; and you can simply drag them to your main project.

Sadly both DAWs lack severely - compared to Cubase or S1 - in terms of project management and general mixing. I think Bitwig has a slight edge* there, but both are light years behind the more established "linear" / traditional DAWs in that department.

* I'm thinking mainly about ability to see mixer in any screen (not just in session view) and the fact that it displays all insert FX above the chanel, so you can quickly edit the parameters, on/off them or copy/paste them; on the other hand Bitwig's faders still are not resizeable...

Edit: but you can also save entire tracks, just drag them over to a folder in the browser. It saves them as a .ALC file, including any clips on the track at the time IIRC.
