Hello
Just to let you know i have posted a beta build
of supercollider for Windows on the SC
sourceforge site
it is quite basic but still lets you use a lot
of interesting patches.

woah! is SC coming to windows?
OMG this is the news of the day for me
woo hoooo hooooooo
here's hoping that it will be able to mature and become a fully developed windows app.... one of the very few things I've envied those Apple people for...
so very, very cool of you, thanks

What is it - what does it do?
I hate sourcefourge - they always give you a cofusing list of files to choose from to download without any explanation of which is which - which one do you need? Is the binary the uncompiled version and the synth one the made up one?

it's essentially an object oriented language to create
audio/midi stuff..it can be used realtime too....i'm a newbie in supercollider anyway..but now that we have it for pc..well wowww!!
i have some csound and pure-data experience...now i'll dive a bit in sc

Supercollider is a free alternative to MAX/MSP. You create midi, audio & video objects with it to create, playback and effect sounds and images. Supercollider uses a language to do this rather than a graphical interface like Max. If you've ever used Reaktor or Tassman you've been introduced to this approach to making music. But Supercollider and Max go so much further. I'm currently learning Max and find it a bit of a slog but Max is so versatile that it's worth it IMO.
Max and Supercollider are used in many Sonic Arts courses. So it's worth getting to know if you intend to study Sonic Arts. Which I intend to do. But I think they aren't that necessary if the type of music being created isn't veering into the experimental.
For example, Max can control external objects, synths, projectors, video/DVD players/cameras, sliding doors, toasters - virtually anything so that multimedia installations can be created.

sorry for the late reply. i was busy coding midi support and help integration for sc
i intend to make sclang for windows as good as it under osx, but i am not trying to copy it. actually the client app is written in python, but this has
virtually no impact on performance (it's just the code that moves windows and highlights text that is not C or SClang)
aMUSEd : check www.audiosynth.com for more info,
and also supercollider.sourceforge.net
the file you need to retrieve is the one on the main sc page at http://sourceforge.net/projects/supercollider,
the name is SC3-WIN32-2004-10-07-00h59.zip

Thanks.
I suppose I was being a bit obtuse but then stupidity is the pathway to knowledge. I learn more by asking dumb questions than I do by acting like I know it all.

no problem
i guess i can't say 'supercollider for windows is released' and expect everyone to know what it's all about
if you're into modular synths, and not TOO afraid of programming languages, i'd suggest to check it out , especially because i think the sound is really great (check the tutorial examples in the help folder. most of them should work). it's incredible what you can get with 3 or 4 lines of text.

This is great news! Marcelus, thank you for your hard work. I, for one, will put this to use right away.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.
