I forgot about Molly Ringworm - she was cast in just about every 'teen' movie in the 80s.

Reminded me of something else - National Lampoon Vacation movies

To me the 80's is a very vibrant and ever changing epoch. 83/84 was something very different to 85/86. Even 1983 was different to 1984.
Not really for me. What there was was diversity. There were so many different styles of music, all thriving here in Australia, thanks to an incredibly strong live music scene.
Personally I don't even view the late 80's as the "80's".
I'm a bit like that. When someone says "80s", I think of the period from the Punk explosion in 1976-77 through to about 1985. After 1985 I started getting into new stuff I'd not previously been aware of, like Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel and Skinny Puppy, so it was the dawn of a new era for me, personally, but all the other stuff kept going with that.
Purple Rain was playing in the radio alongside Billie Jean and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. All so different in both style and fashion - in the same year.
Really? They sound the same to me. But 1984 was also the year Killing Joke released Eighties and Fad Gadget released Gag. The Sisters of Mercy released the Body & Soul EP and Play Dead released From the Promised Land. Depeche Mode released Some Great Reward Many of my other favourite artists from the time failed to release anything that year, although Dropbears released their 6 track mini-album and Hitmen released their live Tora Tora DTK album. 1985 was a much better year.
Remember the early rappers and the electric boogie and the break dance ?
Not especially.
Remember how music changed rapidly with the development of music tech. From the monophonic synths in the early days, to samplers (Nilli Vanilli :-p ), and the introduction of the digital era.
Again, not really.
The music, the sounds, the instruments, the LP / vinyl culture, the movies and the TV series that we where all influenced by.
Why? What's wrong with today? I've spent nearly $100 on music in the last few weeks. There's heaps of good stuff around. It's not all brand new but it's from the last few years. Sad Lovers & Giants' Mission Creep is their first album in 15 years and probably the best they've ever done. After Rankin' Roger died I bought the two recent albums from his version of the Beat and they are both excellent, particularly the new one. I've bought stuff from Odonis Odonis and 2nd Face on Bandcamp, as well as KMFDM's latest (which hasn't arrived yet), Hate Dept's album from a few years ago (didn't know about it until recently), a new EP from B-Movie and Gang Of Four's newie (which I pledged for ages ago). I'm also bracing myself for the new Numb album that's due in August.

Even though I firmly believe that the late 70s and early 80s was absolutely the heyday of great music, there is still enough new stuff around that I almost never listen to anything from back then any more.

Lol at defining the 80s as a period of of time including years not from the 80s.

Best thing from 80-89 musically would probably be Blue Monday, Alice - Sisters of Mercy, or Reel Around the Fountain.
