As far as freebies, my absolute favorite right now is Klanghhelm's DC1A3. Pick a mode, use input to slam or be gentle, then back the blend for parallel and fine tune.

+1 for Antress, being using them a lot in OSC's lately.

Limiter no 6 is not just a compressor but the compressor section in this free plug is very nice.

Other than that, they are real winners.
Been OK bridged with Jbridge.
Yeah, it looks like I got the VFME mixed up with another model. :ud:
Antress Modern 1.30
Antress Modern 1.35
Antress Modern 1.80
Antress Modern 2.45
Antress Modern 4.95

I don't think you did.

Antress just changed model numbers and discontinued his plugins a lot around this time. Some people said he was getting 'cease and desist' notices. I don't know about that.

There are loads of vids on the net about his plugins being compared to high end stuff.

They do tend to be unstable, but they also tend to sound quite good. A little bit better than 'good' in fact, seeing that they were made in Synthmaker for the most part. IIRC. Not that Synthmaker plugins don't sound great - they do. But Antress seemed to nail some mythical quality which is why we are still all talking about them.

I think a lot of the changes he made were whimsical on his part. I really don't think he got hit with heavy lawyer stuff because his Synthmaker plugins just nailed it too much.

Few of us ever get to play with a real Fairchild or the other very high end stuff he 'modeled'.

But there is magic in there.

VFME, VRME...

He's a very fun developer, and his work is free. His plugins are mostly average to now and again exceptional. You wouldn't use them on a paid for professional project. But on a cold dark night, when the rain is beating down, and you don't have anything better to do, and you already bought several high-end boutique VSTs and you just want to play about, Antress might just give you that sense of perspective, a little thrill...

I know some people rate his EQs and even his Reverbs. But I think his Compressors is where he really shines.

He's a mystery and that adds to the enigma. His plugins are probably over rated for the most part. But some of them are great...

I know many people here wanna post their favorite free compressors, but please, this thread is for "hidden gems", and that means compressors that almost no one knows about.

Post

Well, what's hidden gems for you might not be hidden gems for me, and vice versa. No one can really tell which compressors almost no one herd about. It would take a survey to reveal what compressors that would be, and at the end of the survey every participant would have heard about it already. I could go on turning the subject inside out. The point is that the free compressors I happens to know about might be news to someone else.

Disclaimer: Like many people in KVR I didn't read thru every post before creating this post so I can't guarantee that this compressor has not been mentioned in a previous post. For example, how many people know about this one?

Is it a gem? Up to you to decide for yourself. I like it

Well, I don't thik it's so much about gems, but hidden ones. And yeah,it would be hard to know a as a fact which ones are the most known ones, but in you search some videos on Youtube about free compressors you'll see which are the most popular ones.

Now, I don't know if that one you posted is a gem, but it's a rare finding for sure.

For me it's a simple criteria:
- You don't see it mentioned too often
- You think it is very good and would recommend it
Bonus point for mentioning if there is no 64 bits version.

Looks interesting.
