Wow... this looks very interesting...
Can you tell me a few things...
Is Podium ReWire compatible (as host only, or as client?)
Does Podium have a freeze function?
Are there bundled effects and what plug in formats are supported.
Sorry, I guess most answers are probably available if I trawl through the videos, etc. but can anyone indulge me with the answers?

ReWire is not supported yet, but I get a lot of requests for this, so I'm going to look into this soon.Is Podium ReWire compatible (as host only, or as client?)
Podium has a very flexible bounce recording system. Currently this only works realtime, so depending on how people define 'freeze' functionality it may not satisfy everyone.Does Podium have a freeze function?
No bundled effects. Podium supports VST/VSTi only. Are there bundled effects and what plug in formats are supported

Whoa! Thanks for so quickly responding in person!Zynewave wrote: ReWire is not supported yet, but I get a lot of requests for this, so I'm going to look into this soon.

Time to download the demo then...

I don't get it, it just looks like all the other spreadsheet sequencers to me - no proper mixer, file-trees, etc. - very unmusical looking.

what it does it does profound with a well-concidered design.
The way podium is constructed is completely different then any other sequencer >> no hardware model/simulation
It's perhaps not suited for everybody but for some people it will offer more possibilities then most other sequencers. there are no limitations in "routing" your signal.
It's more comparable to energyXT because it's also modular.
It just doesn't LOOKS that way

once I installed podium, but it crashed my pc
after that I didn´t try anymore.
If I was sure it improved I´d give it a try again.

In Podium everything makes very much logical sense.ttoz wrote:... I tried and tried with the demo, but find it the most unintuitive host I have ever tried. nothing seems to make logical sense. very pretty though and cheap, and seems to have a decent fanbase. Another one to add to the "no dx support" crowd though
A lot of people seem to equate intuitivity with logics while intuitivity is just a habit or a familar/personal way of working or interacting.
Podium is not hardwired, you can make a perfect adapted workspace template to your needs (with tracks routings, busses etc).
Perhaps Podium needs some good tutorials because it's a pitty some people don't see the benefits of Podium
Anyway it's not my buisness how people judge it and it will probaly result in endless discussions. but if you state an opninion it has to be based on something, and not because you looked at it or just opened it and hooverd a bit thrue the menus.

exactly - and that Bony pretends Podium wouldn't have a 'proper mixer' proves that he even didn't really do thiskagemusha wrote: Anyway it's not my buisness how people judge it and it will probaly result in endless discussions. but if you state an opninion it has to be based on something, and not because you looked at it or just opened it and hooverd a bit thrue the menus.
Probably he just looked at one or two screenshots for a few seconds - for simple minds like him this might be more than enough information to form an opinion though

Why not? That's all I ever had to do to learn ORION so why shouldn't that be the perfect way to judge something's usefulness to me. How can something be useful if I need to spend hours/days/weeks getting to know it's quirky way of doing things?kagemusha wrote:A lot of people seem to equate intuitivity with logics while intuitivity is just a habit or a familar/personal way of working or interacting...

If I can't see EQ, sends and inserts on the mixer then its not a proper mixer and its not going to be easy for me to use so why shouldn't that be enough information to make a judgement? You might have time to spend learning the ins and outs of every piece of software around but I prefer to spend my time actually making [and/or improving] music. If I cannot easily see that a new app can help me do that, I am not going to waste my time on it.

Yeah I think initial intuitiveness is important in assessing a host.
On the other hand I think there is alot to be said for breaking the mould and that's not necessarily going to result in an instant gratification.
I can see some real advantages to producing "spreadsheet", "unmusical" interfaces within computer hosts. It's very nice to reproduce a hardware workflow for its intuitiveness, but we are working on computers. We can also take advantage of some of the computer-oriented workflows that work.
The mentioning of spreadsheets is a prime example. I personally think spreadsheets were a fantastic way forward in the computer world all those years ago and the basic design hasn't changed that much over the years because it works.
Folder trees and explorer browser interfaces, project management workflows, spreadsheet-like layouts. These kinds of things may be just the ticket for those who want to write music and already have a strong computer background.
For someone who was primarily a musician and using the computer to actualise there dreams, something like Reason or Orion might make a little more sense.
I still know people who would rather compose using something like Sibelius. The concept of this leaves me cold. But it's a familiar medium for them so it makes them comfortable.
I studied music myself but I spent alot more time in my life using a computer so an environment like Podium might make me quite comfortable.
I'm not interested right now because I'm working with EnergyXT and still waiting to see what happens with Muzys.
However, if I decide that EnergyXT isn't a suitable host and Muzys really does die completely, then Podium would probably be the next thing I look at.

At this rate, I don't see how eXT will be an unsuitable host for anyone at all (at least if they are vocal in the forum).Caleb wrote: However, if I decide that EnergyXT isn't a suitable host and Muzys really does die completely, then Podium would probably be the next thing I look at.
I've always thought Podium was interesting. I haven't tried the demo, since it's probably a little too heavy-duty for what I like to do, but the heirarchical mixing engine really strikes me as an outstanding idea.

Yeah - it's quite good at the moment.
But I'm not 100% sold yet.
I find it's midi editing to lack certain features that I have come to value from my experiences with other hosts.
And there's alot of workflow issues for me. However, it's really under heavy development so it's too soon to dismiss it.

Yap! That's exactly what I tought about it. It took hours to get a sound out of the thing. The whole system made no sense to me whatsoever and was a pain to set up. But that's just me. Some people seem to like it and that's great, but I won't be joining them any time soon.ttoz wrote:Actually for once we agree. Does that make it any better bones?
