Ableton 10 annoyances

Im on my trial of ableton 10 and have some small issues which are bugging me and wondering if anyone knows how i can solve them...
Plugin menu - Everytime you want to load a new plugin the old plugin folder collapses so you then have to go through your subfolders again, i just want to leave them all open!
Sample preview window on the left side - samples continuously play instead of just playing once. How do i change this so it shuts up after playing once?
The samples also stop playing when i click in the arrangement. I'll often want to listen to a long sample while doing something in the arrangement but currently have to sit there and wait for the sample to end, it wasnt like this in live 8 so how do i change this?
When recording or consolidating a sample ableton puts its own date stamp at the end in brackets, how do i turn this off?
Ableton live 8 used to allow me to have 3 sample folders open where i had all my samples stored. They were all the same folder but it was very handy having it open 3 times, I could have one open for say vocals, another for drums and another bass etc... Live 10 is only letting me have 1 sample folder and im wondering if its because its the same folder i want to add?
If theres anything that annoys you then theres a high possibility it will annoy me but just haven't discovered it yet, so what issues have you had with ableton 10?
Thanks

The preview thing: Press 'Raw' so playback will stop after one pass (on longer files) ie, it will not loop.
The browser in general is only annoying until you get used to the new system. Eventually you begin to work within its 'limits'.
Ableton Support can be helpful.

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

They've made some changes which just seem stupid to me especially the sample stopping when clicking anywhere, and why get rid of the gain reduction meter off of the normal compressor

I hated the new browser at first but got used to it and I'm better than ok with it now.

I don't really ever pay attention to anything that might be considered an annoyance. It's the way something works, so I'll either work around it or get used to it.

What I'd consider the major annoyance is simply the look of the arranger. Very efficient for a small number of tracks, but there's something about it that just drives me batty when stuff piles up.

I never have a problem with that but im organised to the point of OCD as my projects have a lot going on. Everythings in groups where the order never changes, drums up top, then fx, then vocals etc... then they're colour coded and the whole project and the groups are laid out roughly by frequency. And if im working on a new sound within a group i change the colour to pink so i can find it straight away.jonljacobi wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2019 10:51 pm What I'd consider the major annoyance is simply the look of the arranger. Make yourself a good template and save it so you're not opening a blank project when starting a new track, then get used to it and it will really help with bigger projects as you'l know where things are
My workflow is very quick since doing this and if im looking for a sound i know exactly where it is even if ive just opened the project after a few months away from it.
This is why i find it hard to collab with some people

It’s all the lines and uneven sizing when you use subfolders that bug me. I simply don’t like the look. I don’t like the mixer on the right, or it’s look. Pure shape consciousness on my part. I’m not saying it’s bad for everyone. I like most everything else about Live.

Does anyone know how i can keep the samples playing when clicking anywhere in the arrangement?? Its so frustrating and theres no info online about it. It shouldnt stop playing just because you click somewhere, it even stops when you turn up or down the sample volume ( blue fader, bottom right )

I just loaded the trial a couple of nights ago and was shocked at how much CPU vst instruments use. Is there something I'm missing, or a function I need to disable?
What sound do dreams make when they die?

I agree. The way it offers for vertical screen space management is cranky. Live's vertical resizing isn't smooth.jonljacobi wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2019 4:10 pm It’s all the lines and uneven sizing when you use subfolders that bug me. I simply don’t like the look. I want to leave it open too.Sk1nZ wrote: Thu Jun 27, 2019 5:32 pm Plugin menu - Everytime you want to load a new plugin the old plugin folder collapses so you then have to go through your subfolders again, i just want to leave them all open!
That was useful when dealing with long list of folders and samples. You don't have to move specific scroll position to use other samples located at the bottom of the listAbleton live 8 used to allow me to have 3 sample folders open where i had all my samples stored. Ive found out you can keep the folders from collapsing by holding down Ctrl when clicking, but as soon as you forget to click one without Ctrl they all collapse, such a stupid way of doing things!
I actually got a reply from ableton support even though im on a trial and there may be some hope, but i doubt it, who knows!
I asked about the browser, samples stopping and timestamps on the samples
"I'm afraid that all three requests that you've made are currently not available in Live but I'm happy to share your concerns and criticism with the respective department. Moreover, we have already filed feature requests for the browser behavior, the preview playback as well as an option to remove/add the timestamp to the files. Yet, I'm afraid that I cannot provide you with concrete information if and when this will be implemented"

Nice reply you got there!
One thing that annoys me and make it difficult to make a chord progression in the session view is that if I play a 4 bar clip from bar 3, all other clips in that scene still play from bar 1. I wish all looped clips would start from where they would have been at bar 3 in the clip I am working on if I had played from bar 1.
Do you know what I mean?

Cant help there as i never use session view, i find it so much easier to use arrangement and just play with a 4 or 8 bar loop until something starts to take shapedentnile wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2019 8:19 am Nice reply you got there!
