This doesn't change the fact that Sadowick's video was clickbaity and not investigated enough. And it's a fact that the sinewave thing is absolutely NOT aliasing. ghettosynth showed that perfectly.
You did not, it was another user. You’re (usually, more often than not) very respectful and your generosity and helpfulness speaks volumes. Nobodies perfect after all.

I missed ghettosynths analysis.

He seems to be doing a lot of clickbait vids which turn out to be completely false, did another one recently about the new Mac Pro in which it was totally obvious he had no idea how Kontakt worked. Then he did some silly doubling down rather than admit he was wrong.

While I won’t go so far as to say that he lacks integrity, I’m inclined to agree that direct contact would have been a better approach.

That looks like GPU or driver related issue.
Obviously but this system ran the Super 8 demo recently with no issues. My studio computer will run it no doubt but I don't install demos on it. Oh well if I don't do the K upgrade by Sunday maybe I'll check it out again during the Back Fridays sales.

By the way what are QMLC files and why are there 152 of them installed in User/App Data/Local/Massive X ?

Super 8 is Reaktor based, Reaktor doesn't use GPU acceleration like MX. Qt is used for the GUI framework, that's the QMLC files you're seeing AFAIK.

What's your GPU? Are you using the latest drivers?

I'm of two minds regarding this synth.

1). Like many, I dislike the UI. There's a paucity of genuine feedback regarding input. Want to know what frequency that filter is at? Use an analyzer, you knob. MX lacks the basic information most Reaktor user ensembles provide. I also dislike being unable to double click and enter a value. No manual. I hate looking at the GUI. I wish 'Gorilla Mode' was more descriptive. Dislike the silliness of 'King/Kang/Kong' and the 'Bend/Over' controls. I was able to turn off the volume on all oscillators and noise samples and still generate a note through the SVF. The fact that this is what we got eight months after the initial release date reeks of project goals and personnel changing mid-development, which should come as no surprise to anyone who followed the Machine song layer debacle.

2). I like the depth of resolution for the sound. There's an almost gutsy avant-garde approach to the MX release: No manual, no numeric feedback on the interface, a preset browser that obscures the GUI entirely - it's like NI just said FU, use your ears and pick something you like. I admire it. They made a UX so visually unappealing you will prefer not lingering over it. The modulation options are nuts. You can assign so many random LFOs and turn any wavetable into a quivering gelatin sculpture of sound.

Overall I like it. I look forward to playing with it more. But I've wholly given up on hoping NI fixes or improves things. So long as they fix major bugs, I'm fine with it.

Anyone else running Massive X on a i5/i7 Macbook Pro and experiencing some issues ?

When I open MX, my laptop fans are going hard.

BTW ppl, even original Massive didn't have real world values displayed, and you couldn't type them in. It's a design decision that MX continues.

chk071 wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:02 pm The sine wave in Massive X produces harmonics over the whole note range. Can't be aliasing, AFAIC. Maybe there's some on top of that, when you go up the frequency. As far as i understood it, every digital synth aliases.
There's no harmonics on sine wave if the filter is turned off. It seems all that "aliasing" just a filter overdrive behavior.
... or more likely, the sine in the wavetable is not a perfect sine but has some overtones.
I bypassed the filter (using Routing) and thought I saw the same results but maybe I missed something. It's more a curiosity for me; I already own the synth.

Dead horse, beaten.

I have a much newer MBP but I dare to guess that it’s the GUI that’s using graphics acceleration. This has the effect (from personal observation) that your dedicated graphics card is turned on instead of the built-in one, which then gets hot and gets your fans spinning.

That's what prompted the discussion. I checked out the guy's YouTube - definitely more clickbait than actual knowledge, so good to know that I can ignore his opinions on Massive X (or anything else really).

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
