Not exactly free, but freely usable or patreon supported - Airwindows Buttercomp2.
Excellent compressor, so natural sounding and smooth.
Curve is really nice as well, looking forward to a more fully featured version

I don't know if this is a 'rare gem' for people or not. I am getting very good results using the ATK side chain compressor. There are two GUI's for it and one of them doesn't work right.
the rest of the ATK plugins I don't know about. I tried the transient shapers and so far haven't gotten them to
sound as good as the best ones. The 'modulated delay' is mono, so I can't find any use for that. If it were stereo
it would be a helpful addition. The other delay plugin just has feedback and feedforward that cancel eachother out, and
all this can be done manually, so that is another one I can't find a use for. The side chain comp is quite possibly among the best available, if my tastes are guiding me right.
note: instead of 'ratio' the plugin says 'slope'.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if vst4free is well liked on kvr, have seen a few offended peeps after posting previously, I like it as it holds a lot of difficult to find gems.
Yes, very sad
Aghh, skimlinkskvnes wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2019 4:07 am I don't know if this is a 'rare gem' for people or not. I am getting very good results using this one:

Anyway
I think these were made by

I could be wrong, but his vsts are of interest.

i didn't know vst4 links were a competitor, I'll leave those off. Here is a better website: http://www.audio-tk.com/atksidechaincompressor/
Chebyshev Waveshaper listed under open source is a very useful plugin (for pcjv.de)
also funcshaper vst for waveshaping (rs-met.com) (a little buggy for me sometimes with more than one instance in a project, but its worth it)
sorry to get off the compressor topic, but those are too useful to not mention. I don't keep most vst's I try out, otherwise it is too much. These ones are in my primary folder (the compressor, too).

One of his plugins is called 'Tina Turner'. It is literally impossible for you to be wrong.

Same. It's marketed more as a drum or bass smasher, but I use it pretty much exclusively for roughening up pads. You can make it really overreact to minute textural details in fairly static sounding pads and it vibes them up a treat.Ah_Dziz wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2019 5:01 am Don’t know if anybody mentioned it, but AD Roughrider gets lots of use over my way.

I'm gonna mention only 64 bit plugins and Leveling Tools is one of the best opto emulations period.
https://audiotools.se/downloads/leveling-tool/
Another really great character compressor is Vice One by Initial Audio which is actually free if you share their page on social media.
https://initialaudio.com/free-vice-one- ... r-twitter/
One of the handiest plugins I have actually is W.A. Production's CommBear which is a 2 knob parallel compressor that just tightens anything up, it only has a Compress and Mix knob but the default envelope is super super super snappy. It's also extremely transparent so you can throw it on everything for some added dynamics cleaning.
And finally, if you want one that's both grungy and super snappy Analogue Obsessions FET which isn't even on they're site anymore for whatever reason, it's super quirky, but that's what makes it great.

And BTW just by definition, every single one of AirWindows compressors is a hidden gem and he has a boatload of em.
