Hi Bill,

Edit: this is a slightly confused post mixing up spectral casting with cross-synthesis. Totaly different things obviously :dog:

Perhaps this is already possible but I just haven't figured it out yet.

When doing spectral casting is there a way to keep the section that is removed? Soundhack used to have this in the Spectral Sound Processing program, though I can't remember the exaxct name of the process, where you could process two sound files together and the resulting sound file would only contrain the the energy that was the same in both files.

For example, if you processed a sample of a violin with a wave crashing (one broad spectrum sounds worked best as it was sure to offer matching frequencies) the reslting sound would be something like the melody of the violin but with the granular texture of the wave crashing.

There is a work around for achieving this by using the spectral casting by
a: rendering a mixed version of the two original sound files
b: rendering a mixed spectral cast version,
c: inverting one the two rendered files
d: then mixing those together,

but a simpler "Extract Matching Frequencies" option would be fantastic.

As far as I understood SL analyses audio so that on the x axis we have time, on the y axis we have frequency and the brightness of every pixel so to speak is the amplitude of a certain frequency at a certain point in time.

Vertical contrast:

for simplicity´s sake lets assume we have the following values (in this example on just one frequency)

0.0, 0.1, 0.,1 0.8, 0.8, 0.7, etc
Got ya—thanks for clarifying. In the middle of product rush now—will get back to you at some point, though.

Yeesh... As Bill kindly pointed out in an email, this is what the Mold feature does. :dog:

Will registered owners of the original Sony license of SL3 still be able to participate in paid upgrades from Steinberg? I kept that license and never upgraded because I was afraid SL may be abandoned considering that when I bought it, Sony emailed everyone saying that Magix was taking over. Now, with this post...it concerns me. I wonder if my registered copy of SL3 even works anymore.
...and the electron responded, "what wall?"

Hi, yes, all SL customers get upgrade pricing.

Ya, I made that for NAMM, so people could email Robin and me. :)

My first post here, just wanted to say how thrilled I am at the prospect of SpectraLayers joining the Steinberg family, and to say thanks to everyone for making this possible!
Windows 10 | Cubase | WaveLab | RX 7 | Melodyne | SpectraLayers | x64 only

Thrilled that SpectraLayers is coming to Steinberg... a much better home IMO than MAGIX. Sorry to say that, but I've been put off by MAGIX for years, and to finally see this gem of a tool move over to Steinberg is very good news. While Steinberg has had their fair share of problems at times, right now they are really killing it -- Cubase 10 and Nuendo 10 are outstanding, WaveLab is robust and deep as always, and Dorico is excellent. Hope Steinberg keeps this up. :-) And really hope the SpectraLayers ARA2 implementation works well with Cubase/Nuendo. This will be a killer combination!

Thanks to @clevername37 for being so open to communication here! And good luck! Seamless integration with Cubase/Nuendo is key IMO -- hope the coding and testing goes well! Take your time to make sure it's rock solid! Make this a GREAT release! And congrats on the move to your new home at Steinberg!

Reverb are selling Magix Audio Master Suite Windows for ~£81 which includes:
Sound Forge Pro 11 and SpectraLayers Pro 4, and Mastering & Repair Suite from iZotope.
Should give you a cheap upgrade path to the next version?

with this offer, Is spectralayers license valid for Mac AND Windows?

Post

Spectralayers has always supported both Mac and PC, on the same license - like most software. I believe that image is confusing because it’s the Sound Forge Mac image - which, unfortunately, is not like most software.

I’m pretty sure that this links to the SF PC version since the Izotope suite is PC only.
