I think you meant to say Massive speculation? :hihi:
One of these days I'll take my life and leave a note "Alias, as all life is crowned with death, so is mine. I was simply overwhelmed with and engulfed by the punnery that was going on in KVR; the proportion of which was, to say the least, biblical."

And of course, special credits for vurt.

Urs wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2019 3:41 am .. I'd surely hope that a user manual would clear up why the sine wave oscillators produce audible harmonics (nothing wrong with that if it's an inherent part of the synthesis..
Urs, the sine wave hasn't any harmonics when the filters are turned off. I suppose it's a kind of overdrive behavior.
It absolutely does.
OK, so, i set SPAN to go down to -120 dB now, and, there it is, starting at about -90 dB:
Massive_X_Sine_05.jpg
For any other synth, people would probably argue that it's not in the audible range, but, not on this one, it seems.

Wonder where it's coming from, though. I checked in 3 oscilloscopes, and, each of them seemed to display a perfect sine.

Gonna check with some other plugins now.

Report it yourself.
I do, but is needed more reports to youtube delete that class of video.
So you're asking for people here to report a YouTube video?
Yeah, for those people who defend a software, but are not willing to report a video because apparently they like things for free. What irony, no?
no.

That's where you're wrong - if someone gives me something for free, I demand to pay for it. I have these long, drawn out arguments with people who just give something for free. "What do you mean I don't have to pay for that kiss? What does it have to do with anything that you're my wife? YOU'RE GIVING A KISS FOR FREE, FOR GODS SAKE SUSAN"

the problem, you cant post a link to the video as it's against the rules here.
so we cant report it as we dont know which video.
it's not irony.

yes.

no piracy talk.
no heavy petting.
no bombing.
no running.
and no cameras or mobile phones in the gallery.

Ok, my first impression: Massive X does not have a quality problem in the oscillators. There are no aritifacts to speak of with standard waveforms. I agree that SPAN needs to be set to extreme settings to exhibit harmonics on the sine wave. My impression is, the tools Sadowick is using are extremely sensitive, and I can't really work out what the dB-scale grid in the Fabfilter plug-in refers to.

I won't explore complex waveforms as long as I don't know what I'm doing though :clown:

Hey, "cerebrito", Massive X is not free.

OK, so, i took a look at the sine waves in some of the synths i have here. Here are the results:

Diva (couldn't turn off the filter, so, i used the Dual VCO and the Multimode filter, because it seemed to produce the least harmonics):
Diva_Sine_Dual_VCO_Multimode.jpg
Largo (filter deactivated):

Massive (filter deactivated):

Spire (filter deactivated):

Sylenth1 (filter deactivated):

Thorn (filter deactivated):

Seems to me that only two of those really create aliasing (Massive 1 and Sylenth1). Diva seems to add harmonics because of the filter. Not sure what's going on in Massive X, Spire or Thorn.

Oh, and, i'm not sure either if i didn't leave on one of those "sound enhancing" features. I definitely turned off the warm algorithm in Spire (which added a lot of beef in the low bass registers...), not sure about the others, but, i figure everything was turned off.

My conclusion is that almost every synth seems to add some artefacts, wherever they may come from.
