I recently started using TONE2's Nanohost to run VSTs in standalone mode and I'm currently on a lookout for software that will be able to send a sustained note on MIDI info so I can route in to the Nanohost in order to play with a VST without having to press buttons on my keyboard.

Anybody?

A little 'left-handed', but I do this by creating a midi file w/note(s), playing it in loop mode.
Use Bidule by Plogue mainly, but there may be other/frees...

Any sequencer/daw of this world. Nanohost is meant to be played, sequencers are meant to play back...

You're not going to be able to do this without some sort of MIDI loopback. And all you'd be doing is making a clumsy DAW out of two non-DAW applications. You're better off using a simple DAW.

I can compile it for you for Windows10, 32 or 64 bit-
would you like a standalone, VSTfx or VSTi,
if Windows is fine?
I wonder what I want in here

If all you need is a sustained note (or notes), why dont you simply use the original, i.e. SAVIHost?

SAVIHost has a fully configurable Virtual MIDI Keyboard which allows notes to be played normally via left mouse clicks, but also to latch/unlatch any note(s) via rightclick. (Which should solve your problem right there if i understood you right.)

But there is more. You can use the computer keyboard to do that too, if thats what you prefer. This option can be toggled either via F11 or from the 'View' dropdown tab. (Capture Keyboard.) To latch one or more notes with the computer keyboard, press and hold the desired note-key(s), press and hold SHIFT, let go of the note-key(s), and finally let go of SHIFT. To unlatch any note thats latched, simply press its key again.

SAVIHost is available for VST2 and VST3 plugins in 32bit and 64bit so everything Windows is covered.

Nice Extra: It also has an audio recorder onboard in case you want to live-record whatever you are doing to WAV.

Personally I use a sequencer with a midi loop triggering when in a DAW to test out sounds.

I have been doing more and more in a VST host for live performance. I really like Element and find it to be intuitive to me https://kushview.net/. I would really value a MIDI output where I just have to mute or unmute plugins.

Midi Standalone App (PC):

www.chordwarepa.com

Will sustain any notes you point to on the keyboard display with 'On-Point' checked and channel selected, until you move the pointer off the display. Or you can keep the notes triggering using Arps or Player...

Why not get a sustain pedal? Hit the note you want then hold the pedal down for as long as you need it. That way it's really quick and easy to change to other notes, or alternate between single notes and intervals/chords.
