I have to admit having been a fan since the Images and Words cd I have been disappointed in their music, especially after the Six degrees cd, I vowed I would no longer pay good money for any of their music.
They had reached the peak of their musical creation and with the addition of Jordan Rudess I felt he was not adding the right chemistry to their sound.
So when Train of thought was released, I passed on buying it thinking it was over for my little prog-metal friends.
Ok, I'll give them one more chance with this DVD, after all their other concerts on VHS were pretty damn good.
Something happened to these guys, I think they reached the point they realized they had become a machine and they had to either recapture the excitement and passion of the early days and why they starting making music in the first place or break up.
Thank God they chose to begin anew.
This is the best DreamTheater I have ever seen.
They have reworked some of the older material, James is singing a bit lower and Jordan is playing keyboard with some balls. He is awesome.
I always felt he was trying to play too artsy-fartsy and it just didn't fit their style.
They have shed their black on black image and I think it's indicative of their rebirth.
If you love the earlier DreamTheatre you will love this concert, I even like the Train of thought material(some Fates-Warning, Metallica)type of influence but twisted and DreamTheaterized.
One of my favorite bands has rediscovered their passion and it comes out loud and clear.
Welcome back guys!
