For how much this is supposed to resemble Photoshop, I found myself fighting with it to do what I consider some pretty basic functions. I selected some audio and wanted to make a copy on a new layer. Rather than a single “float to new layer” command, I had to first do a copy and thena paste to new layer. On that new layer, it should have been a simple matter to paste a new copy which would remain a floating selection to move to a new point in time before clicking off of the selection to flatten that data. For example, copying a kick drum and pasting copies on every beat within that same layer. But no, it didn’t do any of that.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Selecting harmonics (set to 10, ma duration 15 seconds) just gave me a 90 second spinning beachball until the selection was finally made. This is on as 12 core Mac Pro, not convincing...

I'm assuming you're on a Mac.
Following to see if this is also a Win problem as well.
SL4 has been stable on my win7/64.

I will wait til a more stable version come out - and if the upgrade price stays low. SPL4 is good but was also a little buggy for me on win10 and lacked some useful features - not enough to stop me using it, but enough for me to be cautious about upgrading for this amount of money

Yes, using SL6 on a MacPro with 12 cores (ashtray model).

OK... keeping an eye on this...
The SL guy talked up some interesting future features for SL.
If I ever went mac... I would go for the Hashtray model ;)

I'll wait until its integrated in wavelab , maybe version 10. Silly for Steinberg to have wavelab and this in my opinion.

Is there no demo version available?

I would like to test it first before buying, especially since there seems to be not a single audio example of all the fancy visual messing around with sound in the marketing videos, which is already suspicious. It sure looks cool & powerful, but anyone who worked with spectral editing knows that the resulting audio can sound totally messed up & useless, and a lot of the fiddlings in the videos seem to be of that sort...

Well so far my audio results have been nothing to call home about, SL6 needs things like audio morphing - time-stretching, masking, erasing and re-pitching frequencies is nothing spectacular nowadays and the time stretching algo in SL is not the best out there. But maybe it will grow on me and I will find areas in which SL6 shines, hopefully after spending 200 bucks on an impulse buy :)

Hi Simon, What are the possibilities for sound design? Can it load image files like photosounder? I would be great if they could tack on synth capabilities like Iris.
They just sent me a 50% off email. i'm tempted, but on hearing reports might hold off

For me the only really interesting aspect is the moulding, where you make an imprint of a given sample and use that imprint to shape/manipulate the spectral content of another sample – that can yield some interesting results, everything else is far behind RX Advanced imo. And it can't load images, I had hoped that one cold use imag-imprints as a painting tool like in Alchemy, but no...

This isn’t an audio editor. It’s meant to used together in conjunction with your standard editor like RX7 or Wavelab. That’s why Magix sell it with Soundforge.

Also AFAIK Spectralayers is made by a different team independent of Wavelab. It used to be sold by Sony then later Magix. The chances of integration into Wavelab are nil.

Bug: when you process the gain of a given region/file, after the process has finished the entire app freezes and has to be forced quit.
