Even some pop songs from that time, like technotronic etc.
For me, the "golden" time was between... like... 2002 and 2007 or something. Some really, really great tracks in that time.

For the roots: I don't know. Some claim that Klaus Schulze invented the genre, but, i'm not sure about that... really early "Trance" doesn't have much in common with what the music progressed to, IMO. People always seem to be in need of that initial birth thing. I'm not a fan of that. I don't really consider the early Black Sabbath as "Metal" either. It's Rock for me.

well it kind of grew out of the festival circuit.
djs adding beats to loops of classic hippy stuff.
i wouldn't say there was an originator as early as the 70s, although there are influences from then of course :)

Well if you want to get particularly anal about it, trance is one of the earliest forms of music. Cultures from all over the world would sit around taking various substances and listening to repetitive drums. This is why a constant 140BPM drum for 12 hours does take you somewhere else.

People who have not experienced that will laugh and snigger but those who know, know.

This is precisely why I hate the word rave. Raves I associate with 15 y/o’s doing as you say. Parties on the other hand are in forests and resemble the shamanic element (yes it’s a million miles away but it’s in that direction moreso than the glow stick version).

Yes, same here. 2002-2008 I think were the times where most of the trance tracks I peronally consider best of the best vere made, most trance released before 2000 sounds way too simplistic and under-produced to me and from 2009 most of it started to sound very unimaginative and samey. There were some great tracks and albums made both pre-2000 and post-2010 but the 00's was the times when it was really flourishing.

I do appreciate that in the 90's when people were innovating and inventing trance on the fly, but it took some time to mature.

This also applies to goa/psy trance but to a lesser extent. Btw, so-called "newschool goa" is an interesting fenonemon. Basically it's a group of producers attemting to recreate the sound/feel of the 90's goa trance using modern DAWs and equipment. E.g., track was released few months ago

There is some debate if it can really be called a "comeback" of goa trance, but at least here we have some genuine attempts to recreate a style that once ceased to exist.
