I tried making directories inside the user directory... MX doesn't see themv1o wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 11:12 am There are far more pertinent issues. Does your operating system have a browser? Why don’t you use that to create directories and organise things? Some DAWs even allow you to browse using their built in browser.

Alright guys, I'm calling it: Massive X is kind of like the new litmus test. Except instead of determining how acidic or alkaline a liquid might be, it determines just how terrible the person reviewing it is.

Sure, Virus can alias quite a bit but who cares, it sounds damn goodchk071 wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 12:10 pm Made me watch some more Virus demos on Youtube, BTW. Man... that thing sounds so uber thick and lush.
I'd be damned if i don't hear quite a bit of... wait for it... ALIASING!!!... in that demo.

Well, although I do sometimes use some of the sort of "trancey" TI sounds in a different-than-intended context, I've never really been into recording music that would be considered club-friendly, so I'm sure I don't gravitate to all the same things from my TI that many others do. It's more just an overall perception of sound quality and impact. Not that there haven't been some other really great softsynths released in the current decade, but somehow this was the one where everything came together sound-wise in a way that made me think...yeah, this sounds just as impressive as the TI to me, and in some ways even better (in the sense of having a less rolled-off sounding top end than the Virus and being able to offer sounds that have even more clarity and focus without becoming harsh and brittle).v1o wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 11:05 amSo you think the Access Virus has finally been topped ten years after the release of the first Massive. That’s a very long time, the Virus has hardly changed over the years. MX definitely excels at complex sounds and cinematic sequences. But I’m not so sure it beats the Virus as an everyday trance synth. Not heard enough EDM plucks, punchy basses and trance super saws from MX to make a definite conclusion there. Trance was of course almost the signature of the Virus TI in the early 00’s.Vectorman wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 3:34 am I've barely used anything else in the week that it's been out. The track I'm working on now will probably end up being mostly MX (and a little bit of the original Massive here and there). Well, and bass guitar and vocals and percussion sounds from other things, of course. MX has spoiled me a bit...obviously I have a much, much larger selection of sounds for the original Massive, but the more I use MX, the more going back to the OG almost feels like the sonic equivalent of having experienced HD video and then going back to SD. The effects play no small part in that, of course, making such a big and enveloping stereo field.
When the original came out, it already had some areas where it was ahead of the Virus TI (the thing to which everything got compared in those days), but the Virus still kind of had an overall edge in terms of just having a little more weight to the sound and better effects. It's a different story now...imo, MX is the overall better sounding synth. It's maybe what I might have imagined a next-generation Virus with more up-to-date filters, better audio rate modulation and even better effects sounding like if one had ever materialized.
I know, what am I thinking, making a serious reply in this thread? We now return you to your regularly scheduled shenanigans (always nice to find an excuse to use that word).

To be fair, Sonic Sate, Music Radar etc- are all critical of the things mentioned. NI just screwed up, it was late, they rushed it out...they should have launched it as a preview or something with a lost of what will be added. I am sure they will fix it over time but right now I think most people are range from a bit disappointed to very disappointed....the more people loved the original Massive the more disappointed they seem to be!Functional wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 1:25 pmAlright guys, I'm calling it: Massive X is kind of like the new litmus test. I may be an exceptional here as original Massive served me for 90% of sounds produced by last 2 years (when I grew up to use it, earlier it just collected virtual dust). It was my goto tool for music and sound design for different media.SLiC wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 1:39 pm The more people loved the original Massive the more disappointed they seem to be!
And beside missing few options I really enjoy MX and it will be my new goto synth most likely

I immediately uininstalled Massive X after watching the video. OMG, what a fool i have been. Really opened my eyes.
Unless the guy was kidding, of course. I didn't really watch the video, and don't intent to do so.
I agree about one thing, BTW. The GUI. It's really not the best thing ever. Original Massive'S GUI wasn't perfect either, but, a lot more straight forward, and better designed.
Not sure about the other things.

what I was trying to get at earlier is: do you guys think Massive X shipped with a laughable browser on purpose in order to increase indirect hosting of this vst with either maschine or kk?
historically, most people had a problem with the idea of sub-hosts, are they trying to force it into the mainstream?
not saying it's aliens but... aliens, and all that.

After watching that one, i got an understanding the guy is so full of himself he was expecting a synth tailored to what he wants and needs.

i read this forum for it's entertainment value (and learn things occasionally). but i can make my own decisions; i have (what's it called?) - free will.
i don't need some random youtube video to decide if i like something; i like massive X. i spent $200 on it, and no regrets.
it needs work, but, in this moment, i can make music with it, and it sounds awesome. and, at the end of the day, that's what i care about most; the sound.

The direct comparison with the old massive certainly shows too many areas that had a step down instead of up. Being more than 10 years apart fgs.
