That is part of designing a proper Gui. There is tonnes of wasted space on one hand, and a lot of features that are common anno 2019 (and were there in the original) that aren't there on the other hand.chk071 wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:04 pmBut then, the GUI would probably become "Massive-ly" crowded.recursive one wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:02 pmWhat areas exactly?
Imo, the sound quality/character is definitely not one of them.
The gui is frankly a joke.

Really, it would be a much better discussion if people refrained from calling the GUI a "joke", telling people that Massive X is crap, and all of that. Why so destructive, instead of arguing constructively?
Feel free to draw a proper GUI with all that functionality, and show it here, BTW. I'll see and judge then whether you are capable of creating a GUI which i don't consider a joke then.

the new massive sounds so much denser, richer... than the original one. everything else (IMHO) comes second; the sound is what we use our sound-making tools for.

I did not attacked him at all? But his so called "review" did felt very personal from his side like he wanted to have a different thing and now doesnt and nitpicks.pdxindy wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:16 pmWhy do you have to personally attack the guy? Totally agree. It’s frustrating.pdxindy wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:15 pmI disagree about MX being a grown up synth for experienced users. It is not smartly realized and does not seem like a clear and coherent vision at this point.v1o wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 11:25 amI never found the original Massive to be inviting either. To me an inviting synth is something like Thor. But in any case MX is a grown up synth for experienced users that’s why it reminds you of a lab. It you want something inviting from NI use Super8 or Monark.Vortifex wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 10:46 am I find myself liking the sound but disliking almost everything else. When I load it up and look at it I don't get that slight buzz of "woop, time to make sounds!" like I do with other synths that I enjoy. Said it before but it feels like I'm staring at medical equipment in a lab or something.
Not having parameter automation does not meet my expectation of a grown up synth.
Not having midi learn also doesn't meet my expectation of a grown up synth.
If I want to see all the targets on say a Macro knob, I have to click on as many as 18 different tabs. There is no visual cue whatsoever that a tab has active targets applied.
MX has a number of glaring deficiencies and a poor workflow.

I dunno man. Melda makes some great instruments and effects but I can’t get into them because of the GUI. Frankly, I think NI GUI’s are pretty weak in general too.fisherKing wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:21 pmthe new massive sounds so much denser, richer... than the original one. everything else (IMHO) comes second; the sound is what we use our sound-making tools for.
I do agree about the sound. I’m super critical about any plugin that costs more than $50. I was particularly skeptical about MX since I never dug Massive, and besides some Razor and some UL liberators, I’ve been underwhelmed with NI.
But even with all that, and not really understanding everything in MX ( the performer is not really that intuitive to use ), I finally upgraded to K12 from the free version I got with Maschine (v1 btw). After maybe 15 mins with the demo. I simply love the sound and think it’s amazing.

Well yeah, they get to make clickbaity titles and shit on a product that they thought was super-hyped. Problem with all of this was though that Massive X wasn't really that much hyped product, so they won't really get that much out of it.Jim Rosebrook wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:11 pmIt's pretty simple.. these shallow complainers are after eyeballs for their channels. And naive and/or tribal-minded people jump right on this silly and destructive phenomenon.Functional wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:00 pm The point is that somehow Massive X has managed to rustle jimmies of clueless people in particular up to the point where they just start whining about it in their YouTube channels in a very, spectacular way. I haven't actually seen it before with synths, that's a new thing. Before I've seen it with games though, many, many times.
He instructs _other people_ to uninstall it (i.e. "Why you should uninstall Massive X") because he has grievances (out of which many were ridiculous). I'll take happily make personal attacks against anyone who is trying to make YouTube content with such low quality videos.pdxindy wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:16 pm Why do you have to personally attack the guy? And yes, I'm well aware that 90% of the videos in YouTube will hit the trashcan if it was up to my standards. And that 90% is a very, very optimistic figure.

That is so stupid. I don't mind having to go into the OS to create a directory structure... but blocking that from happening?Stefken wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:05 pmNo, everything is like hardcoded. I tried to fool the noise sampler to add more samples but no. MX doesn't see themv1o wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 11:12 am There are far more pertinent issues. Does your operating system have a browser? Why don’t you use that to create directories and organise things? Some DAWs even allow you to browse using their built in browser.

Their UI's are actually very customizable but yeah, lowkey agree here. I don't have any products by them aside of MSpectralDynamics because of the GUI. But the GUI of MX is far, far, far better than that. And it's not like melda GUI is really ugly or anything, you can make easily sense of it. But it is pretty brutal in some weird way.perpetual3 wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:28 pmI dunno man. If you say to someone 'you're full of yourself', you disapprove of them because they appear very pleased with themselves, thinking that they are very clever, special, or important. He's full of himself, sharp and aggressive and sometimes he comes over badly

I'm also active in graphic design, UX design, photography and painting, so apparently I'm more graphically oriented than you. And that's just fine. People have different priorities.
I do like the sound, and I think there is a pretty large consensus that Massive X sounds good. There is IMO also a large number of people who have issues with the UI. And with my experience, I'd say that's justified.
But, if the UI doesn't 't interest or bother you, all the better...

I was thinking of using the Performer as a complex polyphonic LFO (since you can draw your own shapes) and with a Free Rate option as well.Functional wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2019 2:12 pm What do you mean by "polyphonic"? Asking because it can kind of mean two things: either you want to make chord sequences (or otherwise polyphonic sequences) with it or you mean polyphonic kind of like how the LFO's are? The latter should be doable so I'm not sure why they didn't choose to make it poly but the former, a lot would have to change to make that happen, they might as well make some sort of "master performer" in a separate form for something like that
Right now every time you play a chord it triggers the Performer for the whole chord. What I'd like is an individual modulation for each note, just like how it is in OG Massive actually. It would be more organic that way and you would have slightly different timings for each note.
What do you mean by "chord sequence" ?

And I agree - MX is far better.
