Size saving Bit-Rate question

I was trying everything to save some file size on a group of samples so they wouldn't be too much of a hassle to email, and i converted the 16-bit waves to 8-bit ones. They sounded the exact same, and they were half the size. They didnt appear to show any quality deterioration, like the samples i converted from 44100Hz to 32000Hz. Am I losing anything here?

Nevermind folks - I listened to the samples this morning with fresh ears at a louder volume and there's fuzz through out all of the 8-bit samples. I guess i didnt notice because they are all ambient drone/pad samples.
