Most don't. Live, Logic, DP, Reaper, Studio One, MPC, ReNoise all are at least two years between upgrades. All are under $200. Cubase is somewhere in the middle, 1 1/2 to two years. Looking at Reason I have 2.5, since 2003, 16 years for 8 versions, maybe not always at two years, but the cash out of hand over 16 years is the same, you would pay double that to stay current with Bitwig.Distorted Horizon wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2019 4:30 pmNo they don't.JunSev wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2019 4:23 pm One of the big problems is that bitwig ask $170 for updates yearly
Props also ask 129€ pretty much yearly. And so does many more who release a "major" once a year.
The only really similar model is Pro Tools, and that's not a good thing. The problem I have with the model is simple, bug fixes aren't going to roll out resulting in a more or less stable release when your
subscription runs out, it's more or less random with updates whether it will be fixed or if it ever gets stable etc. With Live and DP for instance by the end of the life of an upgrade you have the most stable version typically of the software, since there's encouragement to not give the impression of charging for bug fixes. (apparently Steinberg in the past figured this was an OK thing, and why I never bought Cubase)
I just wish all the companies charged roughly $200 and did so after 2-3 years, that's reasonable, Live, Pro Tools and Bitwig charge too much for their upgrades/subscriptions, period.

Who cares. All anyone needs to know is Image Line is on KVR posting a graph like this bickering with trolls meanwhile Bitwig is pumping out kick @ss updatesDarkStar wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2019 4:36 pm I'm wondering ... what exactly is "Interest over time" and how was it measured?
If I Google "Bitwig wonderful" or "Bitwig problem" will they both be recorded as "Interest"?

So true. The Bitwig staff has way too much class to stoop to that level. They need to keep their energy and focus on improving the product while listening to their customers' feedback constructively.qoyl wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2019 5:10 pm Who cares. This is only speculation. But I believe there was too much Image-Line mentality over at Ableton before they departed, which makes a lot of sense. Who wants to stick around a company with so much internal drama that spills over to their customer base.

Or maybe they really decided to stay out because they know they will be called out about their overpriced model? maybe is not convenient you know...nostalgic wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2019 5:29 pmSo true. And of course Image Line listen to their costumers, what are you even talking about?
And by the way one of the big reason that I like Image Line is the prove of their generosity, bringing nice updates without asking me absurd quantity of money and offering affordable options.
That is the problem with bitwig, I don't see generosity in $170 for updates a year, in fact, there is not even consideration about the people with lower income or social situations, and as long people only say: Yeah is ok, we pay $170, all good, I will wait for a sale, still pricey but all good. they will not improve or change their ways.

That's the problem with you, you want to exaggerate things and have pretty bad conclusions of things even when sometimes you are not even interested in particular products or anything and that has been demonstrated.

Keep in mind the reason I'm commenting here is because of the trash talking/bashing/exaggeration of some of those bitwig representatives and in a minor way because I knew what would happen after an user posted an statistic from other thread here (was not his intention to start anything so all good with him).

So Bitwig 3 is all about The Grid in my opinion. Are there any other new features instead of the Grid? Otherwise I dont see why I should upgrade. The Grid is awesome no doubt, but I dont want to upgrade to 3 just because of the Grid.

Just to preempt all of the illinformed post about Bitwig having a 'yearly cost' or being 'subscription'....it isn't- its a perpetual licence, you get all minor/bug fix upgrades free perpetually but when you buy a licence you get all updates (even major ones) free for a year- just consider it a very long grace period!
You only ever update when you want to just like every other DAW, the ONLY difference is that after you upgrade you get a years free updates. The upgrades (if bought in the sales, twice a year) are 120 bucks. Jump in...enjoy V3 (and probably V3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 free) and the don't upgrade until you see new features you want/need...Low on funds? Wait 2 years, 3 years- just Like NI Komplete- you jump back in anytime and get all the latest updates AND another year of updates free (unlike NBI Komplete!).
Great Value in my opinion and the on;y DAW that gives you new features and real updates every 3 or 4 months....I love it

Mainly about the grid....rumour is that the next set of features will be midi tools, comping etc - so you may want to wait if the modular world isn't for you- here is a short list so you can decide, there are also a lot of minor improvements.Proken wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2019 6:03 pm So Bitwig 3 is all about The Grid in my opinion. New Features
The Grid, Bitwig Studio's new modular sound-design environment, comprising a library of 154 modules, a bevy of editing gestures, and interactive assistance that is always on hand
Revamped instrument Inspector Panel for all Bitwig devices that support polyphony. Now with three voice modes (polyphony and two flavors of mono), Voice Stacking, and more.
Optional Realtime Ruler, for showing time in MINUTEs:SECONDs.MILLISECONDs (enable via the right-click context menu in ruler area)
Automatic project backups, keeping a copy of the most recent project file within the project folder each time you hit save
VU Meters in routing choosers, allowing you to see the signal you are looking for
Converting devices (e.g., EQ-2 to EQ-5) is now possible by right-clicking on the device header
Added manual mapping actions for Activate, Deactivate, Toggle Active, and Activate Exclusively of a track or group track header
Ableton Link version 3 support, allowing you to synchronize start and stop of the transport
Global GUI Contrast settings, to better adapt to different lighting conditions
Added controller support for Keith McMillen Instruments' K-Board Pro 4

The Bitwig representatives hardly post at all... even in the Bitwig forum... and when they do, it is just about some specific issue related to Bitwig.JunSev wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2019 5:56 pmKeep in mind the reason I'm commenting here is because of the trash talking/bashing/exaggeration of some of those bitwig representatives
