Yeah. The CPU test had lots of surprises. Thank you for the idea. Maybe I should have a control group in case all those synths are higher in CPU, but I don't think people agree on a low CPU synth. A lot of people say sylenth is a low CPU synth - does it have 6x unison? I could probably download the demo.
O Sylenth would be hard to beat when it comes to CPU usage.

Yes more than 6x Unison.
Thing is there are two different levels of unison. Either just osc waveforms with Sylenth and others or entire patches on ,say, Massive x. I imagine the latter is the more cpu intensive.
MX uses AVX, so the CPU hit is much less intensive.
I'm sure that's right.
I was only referring to differences between the two unison types.

Definitely would like to see them there too. I don't have either, but if someone were to provide the data, it would be useful to me to compare with the others.

One other thing that might be helpful to add to the initial post is the format of non-proprietary 3rd party wavetables that can be imported, i.e. wav32, wav24, wav64, etc.

Icarus is excellent. I like the quality of its resynthesis and it has some musical morph modes and the dual filters with lots of creative filter types

I think it would be useful to have some different terminology for a synth like Icarus and for Massive X rather than just calling them both wavetable synths.

I recently was working on a project and resynthesized some vocal samples I recorded into wavetables in Icarus. Not only is it not possible to do resynthesis in Massive X, it cannot even import existing wavetables.

It seems almost a prerequisite to me that a synth called a wavetable synth needs to at least import wavetables (like to be called a sampler, it needs to be able to import samples). The difference is so big that the terminology should reflect it. That project I did in Icarus would have been impossible in MX.

Anyway, appreciate the work that went into the comparison!

That's a good idea. If anyone has that info, I will put it in. Though I imagine most of these synths can bring pretty much any wave in.

Either you concentrate on
1 layer: 2 Osc + 2 Filter
or you count all:
4 Osc (2 per layer x 2 Layers) + 4 filters (2 per layer x 2 Layers)
:tu:

Thank you for catching my mistake! It should have been 4 Filters (2 per layer x 2 layers) we want to count every part of the synth. I've fixed it.

I'm surprised I haven't seen mention of UVI Falcon, my goto for wavetable synthesis. It has hundreds of wavetables, a nice 3D wavetable browser view, phase distortion and FM, and 8 voice unison per oscillator. It can import wav files, tables, and even convert images into wavetables.

You are pretty much only limited with your cpu as far as how many wavetable oscillators, lfos, and envelopes you have. Plus you have a number of other oscillator types (sample, granular, analog, FM, pluck, noise, organ, drum) you can add on top. It also has scripting with a number a built in ones such as for shepard tones, great built in effects, step and arp modulators. The only thing missing here is a good wavetable editor for which I use either Serum or Halion.

I've used everything here except Icarus and nothing comes close to the amount of flexibility and features. It is pricier at $349, but can be had on sale a little over $200 and includes a $100 voucher for other UVI products. Worth checking out if you haven't heard of it.

Just bought Avenger while on sale, not disappointed at all. The only WT synth I can afford at the moment, lol (and Massive). I really liked Dune sounds, but my demo is expired, haha. Synthmaster, good sounds and cheap but I always got lost when sound designing.

Why remove Massive X? It’s a WT synth.
