Cracks, pops and no audio in Studio One mixdown (from Projects)

I am experiencing a very odd problem in Studio One 4.5 (latest version) - using the project mastering page.

I've set up a mastering chain, which I've been using in Ableton Live 10 without any problems, but I wanted to use the better environment in Studio One for mastering.

The chain is as follows:
UAD Ampeg ATR102
Fabfilter Pro-Q3
UAD Shadow Hills
Kotelnikov GE
UAD Massive Passive MST
Ozone 8 Maximizer

When I set up the chain, everything seems to work. But after a while Studio One starts to hang, and eventually it will freeze. That's one thing. The other issue is that if I use the Digital Release function to mixdown the mastered track, I get a pop and a click and no audio in the file at all... If I strip the UAD stuff from the chain I get audio in the mixdown, but I still get a pop and a crack in the beginning of the generated audio-file. Also the Spectrum-meter in the Project window in Studio One displays 2 massive jumps, equal to the pop and the crackle when the mixdown has completed... Not sure if this is related to Studio One or perhaps an issue with a plugin. I've tried to narrow it down to a particular plugin, and for a while I thought it was the Kotelnikov, but if I just insert that alone on the channel, there's no problem...

The freezing I mentioned at first was pretty obvious caused by the Massive Passive, as the performance meter was maxed out and the CPU meter, where you can display the usage of each plugin, had the Massive Passive listed as using above 40.000... which is just insane. So I've reported this to UAD. (running 9.9 software btw. but same issue with 9.8 as well). And I'm running 7 UAD cores, so plenty of power there.

I then tested the same mastering chain in Cubase 10, and while it didn't freeze or anything, the mixdown I got from that was also completely empty. No pops or clicks though.

In Ableton Live 10 everything works fine.

My setup is Windows 10 64 bit. Running a i7 6800k with 16gb RAM. Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6..

Anyone experienced this odd behaviour in Studio One before?

It may be that the UAD simply won't print, needing real-time mixdown being external to the DAW. I never used it but I'm conceptualizing it as external if it's what I think it is (I could well have no idea :D). If this is the case and it's inserted at the master, logically then practically nothing really will print.

I have puzzled with the idea that one of my UAD cards might be faulty, but I'm fully able to perform the exact same mixdown with the same plugins inside Ableton Live.. just cant do it in Studio One.

In Studio One, the playback is totally fine? You just have the issues on mixdown? And does it happen regardless of what file type / bit rate / sample rate you mixdown to?

The playback is fine when I've inserted the chain on the track, but there's no audio in the mixdown. I've tried different samplerates, both in Studio One and on my soundcard.

The funny thing is everything works fine if I do the exact same mastering-chain on the Songs page. Reported to PreSonus in hope there's a bug with the Projects part of Studio One.
