after my "nice toy" thread i thought i would just give everyone an update.

i had initially settled on a real modular system with a combination of dotcom and blacet modules. unfortunately these only originate in the us which means that when i take into account the shipping, import duty and vat my £2k synth becomes £3k

i have been out this morning and tried 2 of the 3 synths on my shortlist, the alesis andromeda and the nord g2x modular. the nord was possibly the most gorgeous thing ever (and beat the crap out of the alesis on all fronts) so after using up vital shop space for 2 hrs i decided to commit.

i will soon be the proud owner of a g2x, and have a deposit down on a model for pickup at the end of october.

I have a G2. VERY ADDICTIVE!

... You select a patch and the synth structure instantly pops up on your computer screen .... huhh ...

Steve,

Excellent choice. I totally agree about the g2 vs andromeda, too. When I checked out an andromeda earlier this year I thought that it would be a great buy if I just had a PC studio, but it didn't impress me enough to want it, given that I have quite a few hardware synths already.

The g2 made me want to sell some of those others

it was incredible, there was very little doubt in my mind after 10 mins but i stayed there playing for 2hrs anyway

stunning piece of kit with virtually unlimited possibilities

i was quite supprised at the andromeda, it was very nice but just didn't come close to the g2x and from what i hear alesis have given up support for the thing anyway.

BTW, with the G2(X), if there is stil "room" for VSTis it could function as a midi controller ...

looks great, it will certainly improve on my current controller (cs1x)

i'm gonna use one of my t40's as a dedicated lappie for the thing.

no impact on my current system at all

can't wait for the bugger to be in my sweaty little hands now.

One more note:
I have a Nord Electro also, and I "pump" the
Electro's signal thru the G2. A little "home build" G2 effect, (saturator+ a bit of reverb) warms up the
electro's signal. And I can still use all the patches
from the G2 ....

i could have taken it away today (and am starting to regret my decision not to just stick it on a credit card) but i wan't to make sure that the house sale is totally done and dusted before do. i reserved the one they had in store and can pick it up when i'm ready (which will be the end of october hopefully)

they are having problems getting any more in at the moment and this is the only one they have in any of their stores

(i was promised that it would be packed back up and not demo'ed/displayed in the meantime)
